That's not true. The rookie scale will be in place this year. From Andrew Brandt:

Yes, certainly at the top of the Draft. Sam Bradford was the last bonus baby in the history of top picks in the NFL. Bradford can max out at about $78 million. The next top draft pick in the NFL will probably max out at about $20-25 million.

Locker is a perfect example of why Luck should come out now, his stock will never be higher and he runs the risk of having a bad showing next year, getting upstaged by someone else or getting injured.

Or, he could declare, we could draft him, and he could still have a bad showing next year and get upstaged, only as a Panther. Hope not though, I hope he is as good as advertised.

I recall years ago, when two hot-ticket QB's came out at the same time, one from the SEC and the other from the PAC-10. The SEC guy was legit, but the PAC-10 guy was a huge bust. Will it be different this time around?

Yeah, he also got him with the good old "complex question" with two different questions asking for one answer, lol. I'm sure Luck prepared for an either or, but not both... So I think that is what threw him off.

I know this doesn't mean anything, but IMO, he sounded kind of excited about it when he asked, and if I had to go off how he sounded about it and nothing else, I would guess he is coming out. I'd think Harbaugh would too then. I've got a feeling they've already talked about it.

Here is why this doesn't make sense.

1. Locker was NEVER a top pick. He was only a top pick on ESPN thanks to Todd McShay. But when he submitted his info to the NFL advisory committee (ya know, real scouts) around this tiime last year they told him he was unlikely to be picked in the first round. That is EXACTLY why he did not come out. Not because he wanted to stay in school, but because people that matter said he wasn't ready. ESPN = Joke.

2. Luck is in a unique situation unlike Lockers. For one, he is attending Stanford and by all accounts is not there just to play football. If he leaves for the NFL he will abandon or delay his Stanford degree for the sake of coming out early. That sounds like a fair trade-off if he were to get $60 mllion guaranteed, but the more likely scenario is that 1) there is a rookie salary cap in place and he gets a third of that, or 2) there is no rookie salary cap which means there is no season because a CBA was not reached.

In summary, I think Luck's decision will depend on whether his handlers think there will be a season or not next year. Unfortunately no one will know before he needs to declare, and he can't go back to school once he declares (from what I have read anyway). I don't think he will pass on his degree if there is real concern about next season. Unlike Locker, Luck really is good. The NFL advisory committee will tell him he will be a very high pick either this year or next year barring injury.

My guess is that the stars align and he goes pro. But it really has nothing to do with Buffalo.

I've gotta agree with this post.

I've got to add that if he is truly is as great as people say he is, then another year at school isn't going to lower his stock. Especially not nearly as much as sitting around on a couch eating Little Debbies for a year would. His only real risk is an absolutely devastating injury, which isn't all that commonplace to begin with. I really doubt he's more concerned about an injury over doing nothing for a year. Nobody wakes up in the morning hoping they don't wreck their car that day. They do, however, think about what the schedule for the day is, though..
