Ron Meeks Is New D-Coordinator

This IS still John Fox's Defense...and IMO...there IS a problem with that!

According to reports Fox took over the Defensive Meetings after the Tampa Loss. According to rumors of what departing defensive coaches said, to include TRGO, the bland, barely blitzing, cover 2, play not to lose rather than to win defense was all Fox's - not theirs, which is partially why they left town. And the rule is, never publicly diss the hand that just fed you because coaches get recycled and ya never know when you're going to be working for or with them again.

Call me what you will, but I believe the rumors, that the embarrassing defense - to include the refusal to make any real attempt to shut Fitz down and to make any real effort to get to Warner - was Foxball! If the man wants to be a Defensive Coordinator we need to oblige him and fire his @ss so he can get on with it. If that last game was really HIS defense and his 'audition tape' for DC somewhere else, he ain't never gonna be hired anywhere as a DC again!

As far as Meeks goes, I read where he stated that although his guys weren't doing well at one point at Indy everything was OK because the coach just let him 'do his thing', which was let his players 'do their thing'...We don't need anyone to come in here and let our players do 'their thang', but I am sure Fox will want Meeks to stand there and let HIM do 'HIS thang', which is continuing to dictate the defense, much like we saw against the Cards!

Sorry for the negativism, but I don't trust Fox much anymore. When Henning was here we blamed Henning for being too passive and calling to safe of plays. Now Henning is in Miami and really showed how he can open things up under a new coach...we find it probably wasn't Henning's fault after all. Now we see Trgo, after taking the blame for a bland too-conservative D walk saying he was tired of sorta the same thing. Boring, play-not-to-lose Offense, and unimaginative, play-not-to-lose Defenses - all we have seen under Fox, even that Super Bowl Year. Meeks ain't gonna change that, and we have seen the best Fox can offer as a HC...IMO.

But there is always next season, right?! :toetap05:

I see where you're coming from too, but why did he jump on a job that was technically a "demotion" within 24 hours? That's telling to me. If, as you maintain, the NFL see him better than Panther fans do, then why would he accept a downgrade so quickly when he could have waited and possibly gotten a better offer - unless he had some knowledge that he wouldn't have gotten one?...
I think he was personally tired ot the resposibility that comes along with a DC. He made comments that he was bringing his work home, and it was affecting his family life. Not only that, but he returns to a coaching position that he was most successful at.

I'll admit, I was calling for Trgovac's head at one point.

But I'm really starting to believe you're right. I hope not.

we don't run a cover 2. We run mostly a disguise cover 3.

Also, Meeks is exceptional at what we want to do defensively. No, we aren't going to run some super-exotic defense that brings 22 people to the football and still has a bump-and-run, man cover corner for every receiver and has two people deep just in case. We've also been one of the best football teams over the last seven years without it.

Trgovac was just plain burned out. He admitted as much, sleeping at the stadium and "not being the same". He then took a demotion.

As for Henning, gee, he improved under an offensive head coach with playcalling experience and a QBs coach that brought an innovative set of plays and tricks they rode to the playoffs? Shocking.

He's always been at his best with someone else making the decisions. You saw how "conservative" we were when we started dropping 30 points on half the league.
