Ron Meeks Is New D-Coordinator

Maybe Trgo likes being a D-line coach. Herman Edwards just got fired, and he has publicly stated that he will only return to coaching to be somebody's DB's coach, so it's not like this is unprecedented. These guys are not exactly living in the poor house, so it's not that unreasonable to believe that some of them would want to do what they enjoy the most instead of what pays more or carries more prestige. Monte Kiffen is another example...I guarantee you that he could have had a HC'ing job a long time ago if he really wanted it.

Either way, being fired in the NFL does not carry the stigma that it does in other professions. There is a long lists of HC's that have Super Bowl rings, but have also been fired before. Insiders know who can coach and who can't, regardless of that stuff.

Besides, if the Panthers really didn't want Trgo back, don't you think that one of the beat writers would have heard rumblings to that effect from other coaches or players? If this was all some big conspiracy, it would have leaked out by now.

Monstercat, you must be a turgo family member to be in such denial.

In denial of what? If you can show me proof that the Panthers didn't want him back, then I'll concede your point. In the meantime, you're the one who's speculating, while I'm going off of what we know for sure, which is that he turned the Panthers down.

I'm not going to continue to argue about it, it's a minute point and not worth the time. It's pretty obvious to me that he felt that getting a pay cut was a better option than remaining a DC with his current club and his speed in accepting another position told me that he didn't think he could get a DC job with another club. I'll draw my own conclusions from that and you draw yours...

Trgovac says he left because he felt him and fox both needed fresh starts. Most are saying he didn't agree with fox trying to take over the defense in the middle of the season. He probably took the Dline job so he could build himself back up after fox undermined him two seasons in a row.

Well, I don't see how any of that proves that Trgovac can't coach. Obviously though, some fans just plain hate the guy's guts and there is no changing their minds, no matter what the facts are.

I'm not even saying that it's not a good thing that Trgovac and the Panthers parted ways... it probably is good. My only point, is that Trgovac didn't forget how to coach overnight any more than Dan Henning did, and that there is no reason to hate the guy the way some fans do.

The basis of the Cover 2 is getting pressure with your front four, something we've relied on for years. Doing so doesn't mean you need smaller or quicker personnel. I doubt we see many changes at all with regard to personnel, we still need a BIG DT, IMO.

Kemo weighs 350. Exactly how big do you want?

We need a Big DT, meaning we need one that has a bit of size on him but can also get pressure, Kemo is just a run stuff and should be used on 1st and rushing downs imo. We should rotate the rest of the time.

In the tampa 2 (and similar D's) the ideal DT combo is to have a run stuffing nose tackle side by side with a three-technique DT who can explode off the line and get into the backfield to cause havoc, yet still be somewhat effective in running downs also.

Although he is only 290lbs, Peria Jerry from Ole Miss is a great three technique DT in this draft to fill that need. Having a four man DT rotation of Kemo, Jerry, D. Lewis and Brayton would give us a talented set that could handle any type of situation that arises.

People are assuming that we will become a Tampa 2 team, but that was Dungy's defense. I seriously doubt that Fox is gonna go against his core beliefs about how to run an NFL defense either, although I do expect to see some tweaks.

IMO, the biggest benefit of all this, is that Meeks doesn't have any relationships with the players, so he will bring a fresh perspective to the situation. He seems to be a great motivator too, which can make a big difference as well.

All in all, I feel really good about this hire.

Can someone link me to the article saying Ron Meeks is going to run his defense completely?

I seem to have missed it? All I could find was this article saying that we shouldn't assume all that most of you are.

you can't find a link because there isn't one. For the life of me I can't figure out how we get to the places we do.

true Tampa 2 =/= Fox defense

Even though i'm late, i like this signing. I have heard from different people just how good he is and i hope it is true. I also agree that this will be foxes team especially on defense. Also does anyone remember what happened mid season not the fox getting in the defense. I'm talking about us not wearing pads does anyone remember this and if so do u think it affected us?
