Ron Meeks Is New D-Coordinator

Hard not to like a defensive coardinator that was getting head coach sniffs as recently as last season. He was brought in for three or four interviews before the Redskins hired Jim Zorn to take over there.

His system didn't really fit with having Mathis and Freeney over there... though he helped make Bob Sanders a star. Meeks' main selling point here is that he gets a lot out of his DBs and that is what we need. The Colts were bad against the run in the last few years he was there but that shouldn't be a problem here with the LBs we have roaming.

I didn't see too many LBs roaming (or at least tackling) when the Giants rolled up 300+ yds rushing. We need some run stuffing DTs, I don't care who the coordinator is!

Yes Man hire.

This will begin the end of Fox in Carolina sadly.

Well look at it this way: Fox will have a very big motivator behind him in Meeks to do well. Perhaps that alone will keep Foxy's hands off the D.

I'd hate to see fox go to, but: it is what it is. :wink5:

Question is how much of what Meeks ran was his own or Dungy's scheme. How much he will be able to adapt to play Fox's scheme. Sure DC's have their preferences and tendencies but I have also seen them change what they do. Look at Cunningham under Edwards. He ran a passive zone concept which is 180 degrees from his preferred style because it was what Edwards wanted.

Meeks will run Fox's scheme because that is his job. How much he brings to the table to improve what we have we will see.

As long as he knows what to do in certain situations, I don't think it matters how much Fox has his hand in the defense.

For example, "Hay, maybe I should cover this Fitzgerald guy.."
