If you could go back in panthers history and change one thing, what would it be?

Didn't Kasay kick a 50 yarder in the first half? That 15-20 yards we lost because of Kasay made almost 0 difference in the game.

That's kind of naive. 15 to 20 yards can make all the differenece i the world (particularly when all the opposition needs is a FG). I realize that you're just trying to rationalize Kasay's blunder for emotional reasons, but there is no way that you're going to make me believe that if it had been a normal kickoff that we would not have won the Super Bowl.

2001 season

I would change nothing. No 2001 season means no Julius Peppers. Rae Carruth not being a murderer means perhaps no Smitty. Drafting Jacobs over Shelton means perhaps no D-Will. Signing Witherspoon to an extension means perhaps no Beason. Everything happens for a reason.

If I ABSOLUTELY had to change one thing, it might be the damn Gilbert trade.

Agree also with whoever posted about diagnosing Mills earlier.

1. Goes along with hiring supposed defensive guru Seifert -> Switching from the 3-4 to the 4-3. This is what motivated the Gilbert trade anyway IIRC.

2. Giving Capers GM powers. Good coach, personnel decisions not so much. Polian should have been replaced by somebody competent and Capers left to his coaching. I didn't mind Polian leaving. He was good with the Bills, is good with Indy. Us? not so much IMO.

wasn't polian leaving mostly a power struggle with the richardson's??

Don't remember. I remember being glad he left. It's just that give GM power to Capers started the ball rolling downhill on a bunch of things. I remember being pissed at Polian for the whole Biakabatuka pick/holdout thing.

not working a deal with the colts to trade picks to get Peyton Manning, i read an article a while back talking about how the colts and panthers were a couple technicalities from making that trade, resulting in the panthers drafting peyton manning.

IMO

In my opinion, I don't think that polian has done as good of a job in Indy as what people say...... Most think that he is the best GM in the league, and I just don't see it. Top 10 perhaps, but not the best.

And it's also quite ridiculous to think that just a normal kick would have won us the game. If you want to play the what if game, you're forgetting some things here, what if the Patriots have a big return? What if the Patriots drive down regardless and score? It's not like a normal kick guarantees success lol.

Yeah, some good came from him being cut...

But I'd trade his wife being alive and his son being a normal kid with a wealthy father for Smith.

It's hard for me to say that (I'd ever want to give up Smith) but the good in me just tells me it's the right thing to do.
