Something to think about

We can argue all day about whether the pass sets up the run or the run sets up the pass and blah blah blah but I was bored and looking around today at some stats and here is what I found.

The playoff picture as of now (excluding Rams because NFCW doesn't count):

ATL (14,9,7,8)

NE (11,13,18,19)

CHI (26,22,3,2)

NO (3,25,5,15)

NYJ (21,4,6,3)

PITT (18,10,2,1)

BALT (15,16,4,6)

KC (25,1,9,12)

NYG (12,6,13,7)

PHILLY (7,5,20,13)

JAC (29,2,24,17)

There are four different numbers/league rankings there next to each team. The first column average is 16.45. The second column average is 10.27. Third column average is 10.09. Last column average is 9.36.

Clearly the first set of numbers is higher than the rest. Anyone want to guess what those 4 rankings make up?

Pass YPG, Rush YPG, Pts allowed, Rush yards allowed.

Even with all the talk about how it's a QB driven league, it's pretty clear the way to the playoffs is to run the ball, stop the run, and play good defense.

Odd you don't see the Colts, Chargers, Packers, Cowboys (before Romo got hurt), etc up there. They all have great QBs but teams aren't in contention. People say the game has changed. They are wrong. This game is still won and lost in the trenches.

Discuss.
