Fox-guy Sehorn rips Panthers

Sehorn is right. Fox wasn't given the tools to coach the team this year and was only kept to save money and delay the inevitable. Everyone knew he was a lame duck which kills your power since folks know you will be gone, dumped all the veteran leadership and put an inferior product on the field.

Whether you like Sehorn or not, he is telling you what most everyone believes. That is why Fox is going to land on his feet and this year won't really hurt him. Most folks blame Richardson not Fox for our current state of affairs. Especialy considering before this year he has never had a team with double digit losses.

Let me direct you attention to this

But mostly, he voiced the same frustrations that other Fox supporters have over this season, including the lack of free agent additions or the retention of older players that were part of previous success.

We were hamstrung in the FA department for 2008 - '09 by the cap situation due to Peppers. In '10, there were a few available BUT they would have come at an enormous cost $$$$ and/or would have required draft picks we could not afford to give (or else we'd look like the Redskins). Older players were kept because they were here and were willing to renegotiate cap hits to stay. This was all happening when Jerry was done with his heart issues. He wasn't making the decisions, his sons were running the show. This year is the first of Jerry fixing things. We'll be back sooner rather than later.

There are always excuses and reason why people do what they do and plenty of rationalizations to justify whatever a person wants to choose.

But no your excuses for him don't hold water. If we had been interested in acquiring free agents in 2009 we had several guys we still could have restructured in order to change the cap number. Truth is we didn't pick up a single free agent in 2009 none. At least in years before we would pick up mid-level or cheaper guys. And frankly we could have let Peppers go since we did in 2010 anyway and signed whoever we wanted.

Same thing in 2010. Even big name guys like Brandon Marshall were had for a 2nd rounder. You really want to tell me that drafting LaFell and Norwood was a better move than trading for Boltin. Especially if you have aspirations of winning this year. The facts are that this year was a save money throw away year and the only way that what we did makes sense is if you don't really care how we do this year and are looking down the road. And honestly that is fine if that what you are doing. But that is exactly what Sehorn is saying. Carolina threw Fox under the bus as a lame duck coach and didn't give him the tools to compete this year. And that is totally correct.

As for back sooner than later, that remains to be seen. Lets see what the new regime decides to do this time around. There is no guarantee that we will replicate what we did after 2001 to get back on top in 2003. Color me skeptical. Words are cheap as are letters from the owner. Until I see action instead of simple rhetoric, I won't be convinced that we are willing to spend and do what it takes to build this team from a laughingstock to a contender.
