There are plenty of good things to consider

QB:

Luck. FA Vet. Done.

WR:

We've actually got our #2, # 3 and # 4 on the roster. If we don't get Luck, get Green. If we don't get Green get one of the 12 FA #1's up for grabs next year.

O Line:

Get a quality RT and kick Otah inside. Use current RG's for the 4-6 games Otah does not play.

OR

Kick Gross to the Right, Otah inside and pick up a quality LT out of FA. Easier said than done.RB:

Clearly an area of high need.

D Line:

A pass rushing DT is all that's needed. We'd have to look for a good FA or a Lewis like reclamation project. I think we throw bodies at it till we can grab someone with our first in 2012. A pass rush specialist DE would help too, but Hardy could develop into that role.

CB:

We've got our replacements. Only depth is needed. Unless we change out of the Tampa 2, not an area of major concern.

S:

Godfrey will develop into a "no worse than Chris Harris" player, but Pugh is a likely replacement in a Tampa 2 with Godfrey coming into running situations. He may end up being a utility player to fill in at any DB spot.

LB:

Seems fine to me.

None of this is more than 2 good drafts away, especially with our team being so young.

Why would we put Otah as a guard? Best to my knowledge, he's never played that position. Wouldnt it make more since to draft and or sign a quality FA guard?

Because the Panthers drafted a QB to play wide receiver and look how well that's working out. Sure, move a veteran tackle to guard on the opposite side, make Kalil the punter, Baker is now a DB (we saw his mad skills last Sunday chasing down the return guy from behind....) sheesh.....

We do have a good young nucleus. I wonder how much longer that Gamble and Smith will be on this team for veteran leadership though? I would like for us to get a quality DT, and backup veteran QB to help Luck, and a good WR in FA. That's my Christmas wish list so far anyway.

Don't you guys know?

It takes 5+ years to build a decent team.

We have been building for almost that now.. Out of the 42 draft picks since 2006, only 10 are not with the team anymore. Im not saying this has been some master plan of JR's, but if you look at it we are poised and ready. I cant explain this year, and obviously neither can anybody else who doesnt choose to say 'We suck' flat-out.. I think we are primed for some good years ahead, we just need to tweak a few things this offseason, and some new faces in the coaching department...

Tampa went from awful to pretty respectable with the addition of a franchise quarterback and 2 dominant DTs and a WR or two. Sure we could use a few pieces here and there like a RG, maybe a corner, but we could take the same guys in a better offensive scheme, add a franchise quarterback and a couple of penetrating DTs and this team would be at least 5-7 instead of 1-11.

agreed. it won't take but a few additions to get this team clicking and competitive once a new coaching staff/philosophy/scheme gets here.

the DTs we need can be found in FA. there are some good ones that can be plugged in right away and make a pretty big difference.

same is true for RG. FA has some good possibilities. we need to be throwing money at DT and RG getting some experience in there. that and getting otah healthy would incredibly improve the trenches and production on both sides of the ball.

at WR...i don't know. i feel pretty good with the group we have right now. both lafell and gettis are better than i thought they would be. smith still has some years left on him, but i wouldn't be opposed to trading him in for a younger model (i've said that a few times before). i'm a fan of rosario and barnidge. even king isn't a bad target, but i don't see him returning. goodson has a TON of potential as a receiver, but really all of our RBs are solid receivers. we don't need to do anything to mess up what we have there.

a QB is what is going to make the biggest difference, though. well, that and the scheme and playcalling. both luck and newton would be able to make an impact immediately, imo....esp. if the offense was built around their strengths and was geared towards helping them develop like most teams who are successful with rookie QBs have done.

a vet QB does need to be brought in as a backup to the new QB and to help with his development and ability to spot things on the field.

beyond those few things, though, i think the team is in pretty good shape. all of the young guys that are on the team right now will have a year under their belts and another offseason which should help all of them.

i don't think we need to have a ton of rookies brought in, though. most acquisitions we make, other than starting QB, needs to be through FA getting a bit more experience.

...I think any prospective coach has got to be ejaculating over the talent we have. Names like Smith, Beason, Davis, Otah, Williams, Stewart, Goodson, Gross, Johnson, Hardy, Anderson, Brown, Conner, Fiametta, Kalil, Munnerlyn, Rosario, Marshall, Baker, Gamble, hell even Gettis, Lafell and Jimmay. This team is not that bad and with the right coach we can go places with some tweeks, we are not that far off, get a new attitude and scheme and we'll be alright in a year or two. JR did the right thing and this medicine is hard to swallow but we are going to emerge a better ball club.
