Bad Music Venues

I just encountered a venue here in Asheville called The Get Down. It's a new bar/venue (there's no stage) with generally 18+ free entry, free pool tables and cheap beer.

The one thing about this place is - they book BAD music. INTENTIONALLY. Like sh!t punk bands, unimaginative beginner rock bands, just bad music. Their sound guy lives by the motto "HOW LOUD CAN THIS PA GO!"

I was just amazed at this place - and how well they seem to do. There were 4 local bands playing and there had to be at least 40-50 people there. I'd find it hard to believe the bands got paid. It's a small place and I'm sure they sold a lot of booze. Before I checked the place out I wanted to book my band there, but after going there...they'd probably turn us down for being "too good".

Just found it interesting that there's a niche place for bad music (by traditional music standards) to be played.

Yea I find those all the time hahah, hard to enjoy a band when you can do the same thing with your guitar behind your back and 15 beers deep as well

Tremont was a place that really went to utter sh*t. They used to book decent shows about 8 years ago. When I visited Charlotte a few years back, I was dragged there and watched some of the absolute worst crap I have ever seen live.

I've played there maybe a dozen times. With the Fillmore open now, national acts know where to go in Charlotte now.

so who gets to determine whether or not a band is good enough to play live...? if you don't like the bands on the bill don't go. let the people that do like them enjoy them.

reminds me of The Pour House here in Raleigh.. except they do book good bands from time to time, the beer isn't cheap, and the pool tables aren't free..
