Poll: Should Panthers take Luck in NFL draft?

First of all I miss Nannerpuss.

Second, you pretty much have to. Clausen is now legitimately not playing well so no way is he "the guy". I'd like to trade down but with the QB situation this murky you can't afford not to.

The only bad thing about this is all the Luck related puns.

I love puns but you know there are going to be too many for good taste.

Why would he not want to come here? Or perhaps I should rephrase: why would he want to go to Buffalo or Arizona or the Bengals any more than here? No team in position to take him will be very good and Charlotte is a great city to live in, a nice stadium, well respected owner, and besides, only Elway & Eli Manning have ever tried that stunt. Most rookies are happy enough being drafted into the NFL and to be paid like they are and don't act like jackasses about it.

I think our next coach will factor into it as well. If we go with an offensive guy like Schottenheimer Luck will likely feel more comfortable than with a defensive coach. I think it seals the deal if we hire Harbaugh, too, though that's looking more and more unlikely every day. Hell, if I were Jerry I'd hire him just to entice Luck to come out early.

Assuming Luck doesn't opt to stay in school due to the lockout.

I am not saying Clausen is the man, but he has improved. He is a mid-second round QB people are holding to top 15 standards. Luck will suck unless you fix the OL and possibly bring in a true #1 WR (+ Gettis, Lafell, Smith). So, are you putting the cart before the horse(s)? So, I ask myself if it is fair to blame Clausen when almost any young QB would struggle here.

Of course, we should be well below the cap, and can fix these problems in free agency.

    • that's true but the 25 yarder is in general an easier completion if the defense is afraid of the deeper over their head threat. I'd file that in the 'harder than it has to be category' that you will have to work around when you deal with limitations.  He played really well though, not saying he did not. Legette left his feet again on that drop 30 yards down the sideline.
    • If anyone has  gone to a Dallas game, a Chargers game, a Rams game etc, and it is a marquee matchup, i can assure the stadium will be more than 60% for the visitor As someone who owned PSLS until i moved to the West Coast last year, i always find it rich that those who don't  pay, criticize those who do …and PSLs are a long term commitment to buy every game plus extra for playoffs for x number of years…no matter how good or bad the product is or if your financial or life situation changes   4 years was the minimum  it is a time, money for gas. Food. Lodging and sometimes vacation days investment . Most psl owners do not live in Charlotte city limits  Tepper makes  his money no matter what the team does or does not do  i had many great memories in that stadium with friends and the new friends i met   I was fortunate to see great players and spend time with a few including my favorite player, Cam thanks to the roaring riot had Tepper been the owner in 2000, i would not have purchased them tepper has ruined it for PSL owners and  it goes beyond the poor product on the field  pro teams can overcome many things  bad ownership  is not one of them  Hopefully The old saying ‘even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and again’   comes true and Morgan and Canales right the sinking ship
