Harbaugh expected to accept extension?

Y'all do realize that unless a new CBA is signed, we already have our coach for next year....

I really don't think so.

IF Richardson was considering Meeks as a real viable candidate for the HC job, I would have expected him to poo can Fox. Giving Meeks 8 games to show what he could do before being signed to a LT head coaching contract.....just like the Vikings and Cowboys have done.

harbaugh = bobby petrino, butch davis, steve spurier, lindy infante, pete carroll, lane kiffin, ...do i need to continue ?

actually all those former coaches are completely different, separate people.

glad I could help you out there.

Harbough could sign extension to hook up himself and Stanford. Raises his asking price from NFL teams and Stanford gets some nice buyout money for the already departing Harbough.

It's like telling your boss you have to quit because you are moving and he decides to lay you off instead so you can collect unemployment, only opposite.

Pete Carroll was an NFL head coach (twice) before becoming a college head coach.

Butch Davis was a successful defensive coordinator in the NFL before taking a college coaching job.

Lindy Infante was an offensive coordinator on a Super Bowl team before taking his NFL head coaching job.

Lane Kiffin wasn't a college head coach before taking the Raiders job. He was a position coach (the Raiders were just that desperate).

As far as college coaches coming to the NFL, there are also successful examples like John Robinson and Jimmy Johnson. Guys like Saban and Petrino soured a lot of the current NFL on the idea, but it's not like no college coach has ever made the successful transition. Throw in that Harbaugh was a fifteen year NFL player and spent two years on NFL coaching staff.

To answer the question, I would say no, you don't need to continue because the examples you've already given don't really prove anything. Most of them weren't even comparable.

stanford is a cheap school with a lot of money issues. it is going to be a limited amount that they will or even will be able to offer him.

they don't consider the football program a priority. just because they offered him an extension doesn't mean he'll sign it or won't walk away from it if a better offer comes his way.

i'm not worried.

also, just because i believe he is the best option out there doesn't mean he is the only good option out there...same with luck. just a thing for all the haters to remember.

Bottom line guys, I seriously doubt Harbaugh will be our next coach - it would be totally out of character for this organization to hire a guy like Harbaugh. Every HC we've had has been a guy with extensive NFL coaching experience and has reached the rank of DC, OC or HC somewhere else in the NFL.

I like Harbaugh, but I've done myself a favor and come to grips with the fact that it ain't gonna happen.

My thoughts as well. If the miracle happens then great. But I'm not setting myself up for disappointment. Nope. I did that with Jimmy.
