Anyone Still Want to Defend Clausen?

Clausen has been playing. He has had chances to get better, to show what he's got. If this is what he's got, we need Luck more than ever. Most rookie QB's go to bad teams, with bad o-lines, but most rookie QB's show improvement regardless. I fail to see the improvement in Clausen's play or his confidence on the field.

Clausen has showed improvement..he is not playing great but I see a guy playing better than he was at the beginning of the year

Once the ball is in his hands on any play that isn't a run, our offense completely dies. He doesn't read blitzes, doesn't know who's coming, who is his hot read... He makes the most throwaways I have ever seen from any QB EVER on a game-by-game basis. He has no "escapability" under pressure.

I have no problem with accepting this team sucks, but I can't continue watching this guy. There is NO possible way he is our "best chance to win."

St. Pierre was better.

I really hope they just give Armanti some snaps and let Null play. This guy doesn't belong on an NFL field.

no QB of this league..no ryan, no brady, no vick could help this team right now...and especially not a rookie-qb. d-line sucks, o-line sucks, running game doesn't help a poo.

don't wanna say that clausen plays good but what do you expect of a QB who has a clear pocket in 1 of 10 attempts???

No he hasn't. He looked like a an undrafted rookie QB making his first NFL start. He checks down, scrambles when the pressure shouldn't force it.....and the only pass he can make downfield is a throw to the sideline on his first read.

Rams OL wasn't too hot the last few years either. But wow, all of a sudden all 5 of their starters are amazingly good this year. Gee, I wonder why...

i'm tired of hearing that "argument"...they have a very good rookie-LT and improved their RT, justin smith?, a lot...

if you want to trade clausen away, fine...the niners give you a 5th-round pick, we take clausen, install a westcoast offense...championship ;)

it's funny i missed today's game because of a wedding and was catching up on the posts... the first 20 or so pages of the game thread everyone is talking about how great clausen is playing hitting receivers throwing downfield, etc. then the second half rolls around and he sucks and is the worst quarterback ever.

the bottom line is that fans want to win games. when the panthers were up 14-0 jimmy could do no wrong and when they get blown out in the second half he can do no right.

i think he is making progress but agree with some that he is somewhat shell shocked and does not appear to trust his offensive line. i will blame him for that as much as them at this point.

some of you clausen haters that think he is the reason for the the problems need a history lesson. this is a panthers offense that failed to score a single touchdown the entire preseason even against garbage backups. this is the same panthers offense that contributed to moore having the worst qb passer rating in the NFL until clausen took over for him. these are systemic issues. it could not be a worse qb situation for clausen right now. but that said no one feels bad for a well paid nfl quarterback and he has to play the hand he is dealt.

what are you seeing.

What has he improved on since his first start? how about 3 examples of areas he has improved.

That is just wishful thinking. He still fumbles, he still throws low and into defenders, he still scrambles when there is no need, he still doesn't step up in the pocket, he still looks to checkdown, and the only throw he can make is to the sideline on his first read, he is still throwing too many balls away. The thrown away balls can't be called smart b/c he does it when he bails on plays instead of stepping up in the pocket which is a basic fundemental at the position. His best moments (if that is what you want to call them) in games are still late when teams are playing prevent w/ a lead.
