Hypothetical, who do you take in the 2nd?

We draft Luck #1 overall and trade Clausen for a 2nd rounder (or trade him for a 3rd and trade up). Who are you looking for in the 2nd round?

Obviously there's a chance a slated top 10 pick drops but I'm just going with players generally thought to have a good chance to be available in the 2nd.

Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame Watching tape on Michael Floyd and some old tape on Clausen to compare his college vs. pro games the guy that stood out to me more than anyone was Rudolph. This guy just makes play after play, I really think he'd be a steal in the 2nd.

Ryan Broyles, WR/PR, Oklahoma Reminds me of a Welker/Shipley type. Very consistent hands, can line up in a variaty of ways, great at manipulating defenses and finding holes. Overall, ultra-productive and very hard to cover and a consistent chain mover. Again, I think he'd be a steal in the 2nd and end up better than a Julio Jones and Michael Floyd who will likely be taken ahead of him.

Mike Pouncey, OG, Florida His twin brother is tearing it up for the Steelers and he looks like just as good of a prospect. Teams are reluctant to spend a 1st on an OG so he could very well fall to the 2nd. Has the potential to be a perennial pro-bowler and also fills a huge need.

Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia 1st round talent but this year is very deep at CB so he could fall to the 2nd. Very aggressive and physical corner, would be an immediate upgrade over Marshall.

Rudolph or none of the above...

If Drake Nevis is there, i would want him...

Kyle Rudolph has top 10 talent, but TE's arent taken in the top 20 hardly, and he suffered an injury(something to do with his hamstring) and had surgery and was out the rest of the season. 6'6, 260, 4.60 40. a really good blocker and an even better reciever

I was just listing the guys I would be targeting in that area, didn't necessarily mean you had to pick from just those guys. :P

Even if we don't trade Clausen we can easily move up to a mid 2nd for our 3rd and 4th rounder (considering they will likely be at the top of each round). Any other ideas for good players that might be available there I'd like to hear em.

No, #1 pick take A.J. Green. He is the #1 wideout in the class even WITHOUT Mathew Stafford at QB. They will have good QBs in free agency such as Vick or Mcnabb who we can pursue. With a decent QB and 2 STUD receivers in Smith and Green (like we did with Jake, smitty, and moose, except green has more potential then moose) we should be fine.

Vick isn't going to be available. McNabb has a huge contract and if he gets cut it means he really bombed out the rest of this season.

So, who is the decent QB?

Why can't we go after a decent vet WR and draft a good QB?

mcnabb is done or he stays with the redskins. not someone you build a new offense around.

vick won't be a FA.

there will be crap choices for QB in FA. you want a guy that is going to lead this team for years? you draft him. you draft him this year.

if this group of wideouts don't get the job done and we stink up the joint again, then we draft a better WR than green or julio in the next draft (that would be alshon jeffery).

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
