but the game is already changing to compensate for the extra wear an 18 game schedule will put on the owner's "investments."

So? Don't waste the millions you make. See I have always had an issue with players position on this. It is assumption of risk. You know going in you are going to have a short career, you will be screwed up when you are done and most importantly you know what the career plays. Don't agree with the conditions, go get a real job with that free education you got in College.

Like always with Unions - when the money stops flowing and the players begin feeling the economic crunch of living a high $$$$ lifestyle with no $$$$ to back it up. The players will cave, hire new rep and come to an agreement pretty quick.

NFLPA told them to save their last 3 paychecks? That is a pretty good clue that the NFLPA does not believe that the players can survive long without the cash flow.

With the exception of a few stars that have solid financial "off field" gigs - the bulk of the players do not. AND that will be the down fall of the players union when the lock out happens.
