Rumors about Russ Grimm to be Next PANTHERS coach.

And Harbaugh = Spurrier.

Harbaugh runs much more of a pro system than Spurrier did. Spurrier essentially wanted to chuck it down the field every play and had no middle ground. If we got Harbaugh and Luck then we would be legitimate contenders every years for a decade. Russ Grimm SUCKS. Has nobody been watching the Arizona offense this year?? Did nobody pay attention to how bad the Steelers OL was when Grimm was there?? What has this man done to be considered a head coaching candidate? I think it speaks VOLUMES that the Steelers went outside their organization to get Mike Tomlin instead of giving the HC job to Whiz or Grimm. Take a hint Jerry...there was a reason the Rooneys passed over their own assistant coaches.

You are talking about selling tickets, I am talking about making the playoffs and getting to the Superbowl. Selling more tickets excites Richardson, not me so much. A boring coach that wins is imo far more exciting than a exciting coach that loses (and will eventually sell more tickets).

Regarding personality, I never have understood that. Why would anyone other than the players, give a crap about the coaches personality? Before the Panthers were created, I was a Redskins fan, and I didn't even realize that Joe Gibbs had a personality. Nor did I care. IMO, Belichek comes off as an ass, but if he were our coach, I wouldn't care. That being said, I guess there are some who do care about that sort of thing. So perhaps personality will matter up until about the 6th game, but after that, personality is irrelevant. Wins are what matter.

And fwiw, I doubt what we see on TV is always their real personality. Its more of a public persona than anything. I doubt its what we see in the lockeroom. Well, maybe in a few cases it is, but for most of them, they are probably a totally different person in public.

I'm talking about exciting the fanbase, and following it up with wins, which I believe Harbaugh could do.

He's definitely not Spurrier. The offensive styles are a far cry from each other.

And as far as personality, fans and players appreciate confidence. In that area, Harbaugh is Rex Ryan Lite.

(all the confidence with half the calories)

Guys....Grimm was the OC that realized his strength was the passing game with a QB and great WR's....what did he do? He devised an offensive scheme that was pass happy and put up tons of yards and points.

He is NOT John Fox....who refuses to change his philosophy.

Not saying that Grimm is my top choice. But he is NOT John Fox.

When I said he was Steve Spurrier, I wasn't talking about his style of offense, or anything like that. He is being built up by some in the media as a hot property regarding being an NFL head coach. And he is being built up by our fanbase as the guy who is going to get us back to the Superbowl, just like the Skins fanbase did about Spurrier. They went out and fired a coach who had arleady begun to turn them around to hire a name college coach who turned out to suck in the NFL.

Harbaugh has had one good year at Stanford. And that one good year, he has had one of the best if not the best College QB's in the nation.

If we hire Harbaugh, I will of course support him. But imo, there is a pretty good chance that we are setting ourselves up for a big letdown. If he is as good as people think he will be, then so be it. But for every college coach that has come in predicted to be the next big thing and succeeded, there are a lot more that have been out on their arse in 2-3 years.

actually, according to the Cardinals website, since Todd Haley left the OC job has been split between Grimm (run game) and Mike Miller (passing game). So really, Mike Miller runs the passing game you're raving so much about. Russ Grimm coordinates the running game that's currently ranking 31st, and ranked 28th in 2009.

Grimm has never officially been an Offensive Coordinator.

Whoever we get as the next HC will be tempered if we get Andrew Luck. The next HC could be a 2 or 3 year disaster and gone, Luck will still be here. (Assuming he's not a disaster. ;))

    • I mean that’s not an argument I go with… But in ACC play, both Clemson and SMU covered the spread more than Miami.  Miami didn’t cover in 3 games.
