Rumors about Russ Grimm to be Next PANTHERS coach.

I really doubt we will only interview one coach. I would suspect it would be three like the time before.

How I feel about Grimm though.... All I can say is fug no. Hell to the fug no!

He is the worst fit possible for this team that will break apart with the wrong coach.

Would discussions with Grimm actually be tampering?

He is a coordinator and may have a clause in his contract that he can discuss and interview for HC jobs even during the season.

Is that correct?

If yuo have a head coach under contract, and the other guy is under contract elsewhere in whatever capacity, and the season is still going, it's tampering.

The NFL recently made an exception to allow a window for interviews and discussion during the playoffs, but not during the season.

Just would have to ask for permission which if they are talking to him they did.

Thanks for the answer. I was not sure and as usual, I knew that you would know the answer.

The headline of this thread is actually very misleading. Might not be a bad idea to change it.

Even in the reports from Schefter, no one says we're "in talks" with him. All it says is that it's being "talked about" by "NFL sources".

It is a foregone conclusion that coach John Fox will be leaving the Panthers when his contract expires after this season. And there's already talk centering on one of the candidates to replace him. The Panthers will consider hiring Cardinals assistant head coach Russ Grimm to replace Fox, according to two NFL sources. Grimm is a logical candidate for a multitude of reasons. For starters, Grimm's credentials make him one of the top assistant coaching prospects available. Panthers owner Jerry Richardson also is close to Steelers chairman Dan Rooney, whose team trained Grimm as a coach. When Richardson made his first head-coaching hire, he hired former Steelers defensive coordinator Dom Capers. And Grimm's former head coach with the Washington Redskins, Joe Gibbs, who is popular in NASCAR country in Charlotte, has been pushing Grimm's candidacy. Grimm would not be as pricey as a coach like Bill Cowher, which would make him even more appealing to Richardson. But when the Panthers sift through head-coaching candidates after this season, Grimm is firmly expected to be on or near the top of the list.

Hard to believe the Panthers would let things leak this early in the game. First off it alerts other folks who may be interested in Grimm to strike early, it may make other folks interested in the Panthers go elsewhere, and it would be totally out of character for the Panthers and their tight lipped aproach to negotiations.

Not saying it isn't true but it would be out of character for the Panthers who are typically very closed to the media on negotiations and talks.
