Rumor Mill on ESPN says that Palmer could find a home here

I mean i said the word RUMOR like 3 times between the title and the post itself. the rumor wire is all purely speculation, people just like to jump on stuff.

I know, I hate the new ways of the media... "a source close to the situation" is all you need now to start poo..

The last thing the Panthers need is another shell shocked QB that's lost (or never had?) an arm.

I'm all about signing a veteran FA regardless of who we take in the draft. I'd prefer it be somebody that can mentor Clausen (and Luck if we get him). I don't exactly see Carson as the mentoring type. I thought Jake would've been a perfect guy to have behind you. I was with the crowd that thought Moore was going in starting with Delhomme mentoring him.

I see it as the goal is to have a capable QB who can make a few passes during the game, one of which could do better than what is currently going on.. no one is expecting him to take over games.. a lot like what we have waiting for us without Palmer.. the latter being the point I'm trying to make.. He is a solid vet for the time being..

This is what I think a lot of fans are missing.

Clausen is playing in the system. His job is to go to the line, get the snap (:willy_nilly:), hand it off, and set up play action for the deep ball.

Problem is, defenses aren't respecting our oline, receivers, or QB. They're sending heat, and play design is not set-up for that. Clausen is make reads and adjustments, which is why he's hitting the check downs so frequently.

Also, what's been the biggest problem with our QBs? Turnovers. Jimmy's job in the system is to not turn the ball over. While he did throw that horrible pick, that was due to a bad throw (which imo is due to that ridiculous javelin motion).

I think Jimmy's real strengths will come later. He seems intelligent and is in the film room. I remember him telling Gruden about how he wanted to get the play so that he could change it to a better one if needed. Some people might see that as arrogant, but I saw it as somebody that was able to make good pre snap reads. He did much better than Moore did in that aspect.

Unfortunately, we're not allowing him freedom to dink and dunk to force defenses to stop sending an extra rusher. It's run it up the middle, run the draw, throw it to somebody 15 yards downfield that's covered or check down to Mr. Goodson and turn him loose?

just to reiterate what your post says without you having to say it.. our system sucks.

and I think I agree with you.. Clausen may be horrible, the next Brady Quinn, but we won't know for sure for another couple years.. with a competent coaching staff, we may get to find out sooner than later..

however, I do think Palmer would be a decent addition for the time being.. I really don't care either way since the decision is out of my hands.. I just know the decision makers need to get their poo together..

you know i never really thought of it from that perspective before. you raise a fine argument. clausen definitely doesn't seem like some dumb ass, he genuinely works hard and studies a lot of film. if he fixes his damn throw he might be something in this situation. who knows, maybe with a competent coach he might be something.

I didn't really pay much attention to Clausen while he was in college. Has he always thrown the ball like that (shoving it forward like an arrow) or is that something our qb coach is trying to get him to do? I hope its the later so that it can be remedied with a new qb coach.

If that's all him, ugh....
