Rumor Mill on ESPN says that Palmer could find a home here

Take it with a grain of salt. it's a rumor, nothing more, nothing less, but here's what ESPN rumors has to say aboot us and our QB situationi:

We wrote Wednesday that the Carolina Panthers could be among the teams that would pursue quarterback Carson Palmer, in the event that he parts ways with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason.

Because of the team's uncertain situation at quarterback, and rookie Jimmy Clausen's failure to establish himself as the Panthers' sure-fire QB of the future (not that he's had much help), it's conceivable that the Panthers could be in the mix to land any number of QBs through free agency, trades or the draft.

The draft could become a particularly intriguing situation for Carolina if it lands the No. 1 overall pick, and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck leaves school early to enter the draft. As ESPN's Adam Schefter writes, the Panthers will have an easy situation to make if that's what ends up happening (see below).

Adam Schefter

Gotta take Luck

"If Luck comes out, it's game over. He will go No. 1, you can put it down in pencil. To Carolina. To Buffalo. To Cincinnati. To a team that wants to trade up. To whoever. End of discussion. And if my team had the No. 1 pick, and it had the chance to take a potential franchise quarterback, it would be insane to pass it up."

Palmer hasn't been the same since his injury in the playoffs 2 years ago.

He's damage goods, in my eyes. Now maybe a change of scenery will do him well. Maybe it won't. I wouldn't want the team to trade anything higher than a 5th, maybe a 4th round pick.

the fact taht we'd have to give up any pick AND pick up that contract makes it really something i don't want to do.

only way we get him is if he gets cut. trading for him....nah. not worth it at all.

we need a vet to help with mentoring luck or whoever, but we don't need to give up that for it.
