Sherrod Martin fined 40K by the NFL

Anybody got a video of this? I wanna see it... I don't recall anything from last week's game that would warrant a fine like that, particularly in light of the other fines that have been handed out.

If that TE was "defenseless" then why did he drop his head right before the hit? Would the TE have preferred Sherrod go low? (NO).

They need to stop babying these guys, they're getting paid millions and then signed up for all the risks they are taking. The NFL is voluntary, if you don't want to take those risks then quit.

Next home game somebody needs to bring a sign that says something to the affect of "donate so that Sherod Martin can continue playing real football"

Well, Sterling Sharpe said on one of the Playbook shows, which Baldinger and Theismann agreed that they would rather be hit in the head than to go low and be tackled around the knees. That is what this game is coming to. Take out the man's legs and leave them crippled so seems what the NFL wants.

This is damn foolishness. Isn't this Sherrods second penalty of the year? I can't understand how you can fine a guy who's playing football the correct way TWICE his salary for a hit when hitting is part of the game. But two guys have a helmets off punching match in the middle of the field get fined $25,000 especially when Johnson is making TONS of money. The league needs to get it's head out of it's ass.

at the same time, the nfl is a business, the nfl signs these guys checks, regardless if you or me dont agree with the rules, they are the rules....if they dont wanna follow the rules, they can quit also.

Its the landscape of the nfl now, like it or not. They need to go low and blow out guys knees.

I looked around for a video of it but I couldn't find one. I know I saw it on espn tho. It was on their website on a playlist after the andre fight.

The fine was bogus tho. Its unreal. Watching it in slow mo the TE was covering the ball and dropped his head into sherrod who has his down and was just driving to make the hit. There was definitely contact but I dont see it being $40,000 worth. He is a "repeat offender" in the leagues eyes now so that may have something to do with it. Still, I can believe this. This is a sad sad day that football is turning into this... :frown2:

I understand protecting players and all, but good grief. How about instead of huge fines, a player gets cards like in Soccer (I hate soccer by the way). Your first offense is a yellow card warning, your next offense is a red card and fine, the next offense is a fine and a suspension.

I dont think the NFL should be able to fine someone if the ref did not give a PF on the play. Its just not fair to the players the way its set up. So punching a guy in the face is fine as long as your winning but if you hit someone not the Gooddell way its 100,000 out of your paycheck. Yea makes complete since.

So if a player makes a dilebrate helmet to helmet and the refs did see and/or call it they should get a pass?

The punches were bad but not threating to the health of the player. Helmet to helmet are and is a rule that has been emphasised.

Wether or not you agree, Martin knew the rule and broke it for the second time. He deserves it.

Martin did not hit Watson, Watson lowered his head down to Martin level and hit him helmet on helmet.

I dont have a problem with the fines , just the amount is what is crappy.

The fines should be prorated as a portion of the players salary. I.E. 1/5 or 1/3 of a game check instead of the flat amount.
