Resume Advice

I've got a good friend who's worked in human resources for years. I got it from her - I trust her.

I already listed being in a band as job experience, considering I was band manager and booking agent as well for multiple touring bands I was in. I take that off sometimes and highlight it more for certain jobs.

I guess I just came up with an idea - have multiple, tailored resumes for different positions.

Bright colors! jk

Make sure you keep a changeable word doc, but save and print using PDFs. Its better for organizing and such. I have a few different layouts and slightly different resumes (vocabulary wise) catering to different jobs in case I'm going for a planning firm, developer, architecture firm, or other areas.

This.

While I said the huddle is expository writing experience, why would you put that on a resume for, say, CPR instructor?

Oh and another thing - no 1 page resumes. Cover sheet. Always. Even scannable resumes.

Cover letters are pretty much a necessity. But, they should be even more tailored per job type your applying for

If you are applying online, which is fairly standard these days, there is usually a cover letter required. If you aren't writing cover letters, you're not gonna get the job. everyone has a resume, but you can have a unique cover letter that catches their attention.

I don't really use a "traditional" cover letter. Since 95% of the jobs I apply for are online, my cover letter is a personally typed email (with resume attached) explaining why I'm applying for this particular job, and if they specifically requested any information, I'm sure to provide it.
