Our Third Year Players

I thought Godfrey was leading our team in picks???

and how the hell is Nick hayden not a bust, the guy is clearly not good enough.

Godfrey is also leading the team in TDs given up in coverage with 3. The interceptions he picked up have usually been down to mistakes by the offense, rather than exceptional play by him. This season is the first season he has made multiple turnovers, unfortunately he has coupled that with a significant increase in mistakes and being responsible for big plays and TDs.

Hayden is a bust. However it's difficult to list a 6th round pick as a bust, especially as he has achieved playing time (through situation rather than playing well).

We run a version of the Tampa 2, which requires the MLB to play deep mid-field. Anything that goes deep in the middle of the field is the MLB's responsibility. So no he's not perfect for the Tampa 2, however I am very high on Connor and his run stopping ability.

Would I call him elite? Absolutely not, has had limited playing time, in which there is not enough to evaluate his performance. No Pro Bowls. He's a player on the rise, but to call him "elite" is not sober judgment.

And yet he was only in coverage 29% of the time, run stuffing 60% of the time and blitzing approximately 9%. Sure he had to be in coverage at some time and he struggled, but was not abused. He has faired about as well as Beason has through this season in coverage...

Completely understand if you do not view him as elite, however the impact he made and the amount of defensive stops he managed really was head and shoulders above everyone in the NFL bar one or two It's a small sample size, but the whole point of reviewing their 3 year career was to judge where they are right now at the end of the three year period, and then look at their progression.

If 10 other guys are just as good as him in something then thats not elite..IMO.

10 guys are there or there abouts. Only one or two had the ratio of defensive stops to snaps and tackles that he did. So when I said that only 10 or so can do what he does, I purely meant have an impact in the run game, he is still one of the top in that bracket. I just meant those 9 or 10 where head and shoulders above everyone else, which is why they are an elite group. 104 players have played at MLB/ILB this season, with around 52 of them having played at least 25% of the available snaps, he probably ranks around 8th considering all aspects of the position (including his coverage skills), which would put him in the upper 15%. Personally that seem pretty elite.

When Marshall leaves we should work Godfrey out at CB.

I really do wonder how his career would have turned out. We had a need for a CB at the time as well anyway, so could have easily picked up a journeyman as a place holder. I think it might be a touch late in his career to start trying to learn the CB position as that is often a position that needs a couple of years to 'get it', however he will not last long as a safety so possible some team will try it.

Godfrey created more turnovers than anyone on the current roster did last season...

1 interception and 4 forced fumbles? I must admit I meant interceptions when I wrote that before, however...

Beason had 3 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and recovered 2 fumbles

Marshall had 4 interceptions and recovered 2 fumbles

Gamble had 4 interceptions

Martin had 3 interceptions and 1 forced fumble

Then add in the guys who have left such as Pep & Harris and we have covered virtually every starting skill position on the defence.

Godfrey wasn't a turnover machine, none of our players were, in fact they all contributed in that regard much as each other. If it weren't for his surge in the final 4 starts after his injury, he likely would have lost his starting job completely.

Those four games were pretty good, but when you have 2565 snaps under your belt for the defence, you need to have produced more than just 4 good games. As I said before, his awful and poor games FAR outweigh the good games he has had.

A fumble recovery isn't a forced turnover. Godfrey still had more than anyone besides Pep last season.
