I'm gonna assume the team that gets it wont win more than 3 games.

Were the only 1 win team

Our strength of Schedule .495 (60-61 combined overall records)

Remaining Games

@ Seattle

vs. Atlanta

vs, Cards

@ Steelers

@ Atlanta

Heres the 2 win teams

Bengals,Bills,Lions

And those already at 3

Broncos Cardinals, and Cowboys.

Disecting their schedules heres what were up against.

Bengals(2-9) current strength of schedule and remaing games

Strengh of Schedule: .570( 69-52 combined records of teams played against)

Home vs. Saints

@ Steelers

vs. Browns-most winnable game, all others would be big upsets

vs. Chargers

@Ravens

Bills(2-9) Current Strength of schedule and remaining games

Strength of Schedule: .595( 72-49 combined records of teams played against)

@ Vikings-

vs. Browns

@ doplhins

vs. ravens

@ Jets

Bills could and hopefully will win at least 2 of the next 3 taking themsleves out of the race

Lions(2-9) Current Strength of schedule and remaining games

Strength of Schedule: .545 ( 66-55 combined record of teams played against)

vs. Bears

vs. Packers

@ Bucs

@ Dolphins

vs. Vikings

The last 3 are the easiest. I predict 1-3 more wins

Broncos(3-9) Current Strength of schedule and remaining games

Strength of Schedule: .545 (66-55 combined record of teams played against)

@ Chiefs

@ Cardinals

@ Raiders

vs.Texans

vs Chargers

Cardinals(3-9) Current Strength of schedule and remaining games

Strength of Schedule: .520(63-58 combined record of teams played)

vs. Rams

vs. Broncos

@ Panthers

vs. Cowboys

@ 49er's

you'd have to believe they'll pull out least 1 of these but wouldn't be surprised if they didnt

Cowboys(3-9) Current Strength of schedule and remaining games

Strength of Schedule: .528 (64-57 combined record of teams played)

@Colts

Vs. Eagles

Vs. Skins

@ Cardinals

@ Eagles

I'd guess that the 3 teams really in the running are Panthers, Bengals, and Cardinals. The rest of the teams have either won too many games, or have too many easy matchups left on the schedule. Honestly, the only winnable game left on our schedule is Arizona.

So If we did make it to 3 wins then were still gonna get in by strength of schedule tiebreaker alone based of todays stats.

So sticking with assumption that 3 wins or less gets you in

The only way we take ourselves out

1.If we win 3 more games.

2.We beat beat arizona and they lose out and end up with a worse stength of schedule

3.We beat Arizona and one more team and Arizona wins just 1 more.(tiebreaker of strength of schedule would likely go them.

4.Bengals, Bills, or Lions lose out and we win 2 more.

So the mathmaticallly current possibilites are

as follows in descending order

Tier 1

1.Panthers

2.Bengals

3.Bills

4.Lions

5.Cardinals

Tier 2

6.Broncos

7.Cowboys

Looking at those teams and their QB situations:

Bengals: Have Carson Palmer whom many considered a Franchise QB a few years ago but is having a mediocre year (19 TDs, 15 Ints).

Bills: Ryan Fitzpatrick is actually having a decent year so far (19 TDs, 10 Ints) but few would consider him a big-time QB.

Broncos: Kyle Orton leads the league in passing yards and has more than 3:1 TD to Int ratio. Broncos also drafted The Golden Calf of Bristol in the first round last year.

Cardinals: Derek Anderson is the 31st rated passer in the NFL. Rookie QB Max Hall was recognized as having a great Training Camp and Preseason and beat the New Orleans Saints in a regular season game but only has 1 TD compared to 5 Ints and has not played in the last 5 games.

Cowboys: Dallas has a good if not great QB in Tony Romo but his ability finish games strong and perform in playoff games has been questioned.

Lions: Matthew Stafford was the #1 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and has shown great ability when healthy however he has had numerous injuries in his first 2 years. Backup Shaun Hill has done a respectable job in Staffords absence.

Panthers: Rookie QB Jimmy Clausen is the 33rd rated passer in the NFL and has only thrown 1 TD pass (due to broken coverage vs. the Saints) in 8 appearances (5 starts) compared to 5 Ints.

Aside from the Panthers (some would argue for Clausen) and Cardinals the other teams are not in dire need for a QB. Not saying the other teams would not draft Luck but a QB being the #1 pick is not a given.

    • Ok but is the alternative? He is not going to sign for a lesser contract, so then do you release him? We did that with Burns... see how that is working out. You can save the cap but you still need to replace the player. You can argue that we should have be preparing to replace Horn when his deal came up but we dealt those picks to get a QB.  Im curious to know how you would have handled it differently..
    • Perhaps you are correct but it has been a long time since the Panthers had a WR core that scared anyone and this could be part of the problem.  They finally found someone with Moore and the fans complained nonstop that he wasn't a true number 1 and perhaps the front office agreed and why he was traded.  If Warren is there at number 8, that's going to be the pick.
