Cam Newton????????

IMHO Cam Newton will not be a great NFL QB. He is an amazing College player. I would even say the best ever. I cant think of any one player who has dominated teams like he has, single handedly. The problem is, in the NFL linebackers are a lot bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter. D-linemen are A LOT BIGGER, faster, stronger, and smarter. He has all day to throw the ball in college. His O-line is great, but it is also because people are afraid to come after him. When he has all that time and moves around so much in the backfield his receivers eventually get open. He will not be able to do that against NFL defenses. They are to fast. He will not be as elusive, either. When a big ol D-lineman gets his hand on him, he will not be able to get away, most of the time. When he runs, he runs like a power runningback. It will only take a few hits from NFL linebackers to stop that. I do think he will have a good NFL career, but I just dont think he is the best player available. I am not sure I would even put him in the top 10, but what do I know, I am no NFL scout. Just a fan of the game.

Yeah, there is no D-linemen faster than Newton maybe linebacker but sure as hell not linemen.

As much as I hate to admit it I would be willing to bet Julius Peppers would be able to run down Cam Newton if he wanted to. Also why does the d-line have to be faster then him to sack him? Even Mike Vick gets sacked....

Nice mugshot. Im glad to see Cam bounce back from that to become the best QB in the nation. Matt Schaub was arrested for assault in college. By your logic, he has character issues and shouldnt be a pro bowl qb. Its funny dudes have to go at Cams character because the qbs they like aint good enough to stand on their own merits. Luck aint played in a bowl game yet and u so sure hes Brady. Luck must be very overhyped if he still cant win it over this guy. Luck lost to Oregon, the best team hes faced.

Cam is gonna show u how a quarterback beats a top 5 team.

1. Cam Newton is starting for the first time this year. He hasn't played in a Bowl game either.

2. Character counts. Getting caught doing something bad in college is nothing compared to getting caught in the NFL. You don't want your starter suspended because he can't control himself. See Big Ben, Vince Young, Michael Vick, etc.

3. Oregon's defense is no pushover as many people seem to think it is. Everyone is slurping Cam Newton right now. IMO, the SEC doesn't produce secondaries that well because they're so good up in the front seven that their secondaries look better than they actually are. Oregon's secondary is legit. They lead the league in passes defensed and are top 5 in interceptions.

4. Cam has started for 1 year. We can't know if it's the pieces around him that make him good, or whether he's the legit answer unless he plays another season. The pieces aligned for Alabama, the same could be the case for Auburn. Andrew Luck on the other hand, lost Heisman Runner-Up Toby Gerhart and played BETTER the next season. A marked improvement shows that he's developing. If Cam comes out this year, a lot of teams might pass on him because he's only had 1 year.

Cam in his first year starting dominated the SEC and became a Heisman winner. What did Luck do his first year starting? His 2nd year even pales to the year Cam is having.

Character is very important. Unfortunately for our franchise, its usually used as an excuse to avoid talented players that dont fit an "image" that our owner wants. That philosophy is why the Panthers are a losing franchise, and franchises that have had players with character issues like the Steelers, Eagles, Cowboys, etc have been more consistent then us. Good owners like Jeff Lurie of the Eagles, take chances, owners like ours dont, and the wins and losses reflect that. There's not an Eagles fan alive that would trade places with the Panthers right now, for the sake of saying "well my team has more character than yours". And on most NFL rosters you will find one or two guys who's had a run in or two with the law.

The Pac-10 is an offensive conference. They are not known for defense and dont produce better defensive squads than the SEC. Oregon's defense has not seen an offense like Auburn's all year and it shows. Oregon's defense just gave up alot of points to an unranked Oregon State. But we're supposed to believe they're gonna shut down Cam and Auburn in the title game. I really cant wait for it. I just think its interesting that Luck lost his biggest game of the season, and it isnt being held as a strike against him. Cam has yet to lose.

Pieces around him that make him good? The guy had 400 yards of total offense by himself in the SEC title game. What more can a QB do to show that he has talent? 6 TDs is the most in SEC title game history. What did Auburn do last year? When was the last time Auburn was #1 in the country? 20 years? Cam has improved every week this season, and has yet to lose. He dominated the SEC. Luck did not even dominate or win his. I just think people are putting to much on this Luck kid. I just dont see how he can live up to the hype if he hasnt even done it in college yet.

Cam played divison 2 ball and put up amazing numbers there as well(AND WON A CHAMPIONSHIP). i think Joe flacco made it based off d-2 numbers why cant cam?

as far as character...all he's done is cheat on a test and had possession of a stolen labtop. does that mean hes going to be getting dwis and beating his wife? i think luck will be the number one pick but i think Newton has more upside....

Auburn went undefeated in 2004, due to the stupid BCS system they were never given a shot to play for #1. Luck is succeeding at Stanford, which is more known for academics than a football factory. Before luck arrived, they hadn't had a winning season since 2001.
