Williams wants to stay in Carolina

So Hines Ward is to the Steelers as Deangelo Williams is to the Panthers?Really? Really???

I don't see it. Maybe Steve Smith or Kasay. That's it on our current roster.

That is not what I said. You were the one that made a joke that Williams would not be kept at the Steelers. This was just one example of the Steelers taking care of players.

And I gave you a few examples of players they let go of, though trade and FA, that they easily replaced with younger, cheaper options.

I guess we will just agree to disagree. You understand that your argument about younger and cheaper can be applied to every position. Yes, I understand you can replace with younger and cheaper, but you can't all the time. Look at what we are going through now. We are definitely younger and cheaper. How is this year working out for you? Based on your philosophy, the Panthers will turn into the Charlotte Hornets.

Um, I'm talking about going cheaper and younger at the most replaceable position in football, where we happen to have a ton of depth at currently on the roster--meaning we can afford to let Williams walk if need be. You didn't really comprehend anything I said.

i dont get the argument that we should just let williams go and replace him with a drafted rook. they aren't as guaranteed as people think. moreover, if you want somebody to replace his level of production you'd have to draft somebody in the first round... is there anybody on the huddle who actually wants our first-rounder to be spent on a running back when all we have to do is re-sign the one we've got?

forget personal attachments, the panthers NEED deangelo williams. i believe the front office recognizes this and he'll get a contract this offseason.

No one is arguing that we need to repace him with a rookie.

The argument is kdrh5 thinks we have the answer at the RB position with Stewart and Goodson and I don't agree. I don't think you can say that Stewart is starter material based on his injury issues and Goodson is not proven yet. I think Williams is an elite running back and kdrh5 thinks it is the easiest position in football to replace and doesn't think we should spend the $ on Williams. That is the gist of it.

still not a hard decision either way. if the cba gets signed we will have cap room galore. the talent is on our roster, and we should keep it. end of story

I agree. I think we have gotten rid of all the dead weight and need to hang onto the studs we have on the team already. With all the $ saved we should have plenty to keep everyone.

Are you seriously bringing up Stewarts injuries when Williams has finished the last two years on IR and has missed more games in his career even with the presence of Stewart to take the pressure off of him? Jesus

I'll say it again, if letting go of Williams means we have more money to convince Vincent Jackson and Marcedes Lewis to sign here, let him go. I like Williams, but RBs are a dime a dozen. And no, Williams is not "special" he's just very good.

how does every other team survive without having 2 1st round running backs?? oh thats right they develop monster oline so it wont matter who they pick up.

even with williams and stew going for 1100 yards apiece we were still 3rd rushing the football. they jets with a weaker backfield led the league. rb is the easiest position to fill and for rookies to make a impact. even fa rbs can do good on a good team. look at lt, everyone thought he was washed up, but put him behind the jets oline and he looks like a different person.

Funny.

I remember watching Williams play in the Pro Bowl last year, not on IR.

And you know full well he wouldn't be on IR this year if it weren't for our 1-10 record.

Has Stewart even been to a TC yet?

You can't let a special back like Williams just walk.

If anything, Stewarts the one you dump in an effort to keep Williams. You'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise.
