Williams wants to stay in Carolina

Do you know how good Foster was going to be before he got injured?

Meh. It's a bit of an extreme example.

Anyways...people who are fighting for DWill have the same mentality that plagues this organization.

Be loyal to a team not a player. Those NE Patriots fans must hate all the stars they have let go over the years.

The Patriots also re-sign people they think are key to their success. They release people that ask for too much money. If Dwill is reasonable there is no real reason not to bring him back... but again, it all depends on how much he is asking for.

Yeah, you're letting emotions get in the way of business. Um, no one is trying to let go of williams in favor of rookies since none of our backs are rookies to begin with LOL. And the team didnt let go of free agents, there were no free agents because of the cba, remember? They cut old veterans who were overpaid. Despite these obvious false statements people still agree with this post which isn't surprising

I know they are not rookies. You know what I was talking about. Goodson is an unproven young player...is that better? I wasn't putting Goodson and Stewart in the same category. They are under rookie contracts.

We are not the Patriots. Belichick is a master at recognizing talent and getting the most bang for his buck. Trying to follow in their foot steps will be a big mistake.

Granted, if Williams asks for $10 mil a year, there is no way we should pay that. Having said that, if he asks for the going rate which is around $6 million a year, we should pay it.

I find if funny that people say that contracts are for what you can do for a team in the future. 99% of the people on this site were so furious at Peppers for leaving because they felt Pep betrayed the Panthers. If you don't take care of players then you get a rep like the Jets with Thomas Jones and Vikings. The way Jones was treated was the main reason Revis held out. What goes around comes around.

I would love to give him purely an incentive laden deal but how many of those do you see everyday?

The reality is we need to resign Beason, Kalil, and a couple other guys before Dwill. If they get our core resigned and have some room to make some noise in the FA market then by all means throw him a deal.

What teams are going to throw buckets of money to a RB that has finished his last two seasons on IR? How short is the window for RB's in the NFL? Could we spend our money elsewhere a bit more wisely?

I really hope D stays with us. Hes a heck of a RB, a good guy and heck of a human being. What isnt to like?

This means nothing to people on this site. A top 5 running back in the NFL that has been loyal to the Panthers and appears to be a good person

The way I see it, DeAngelo is the only running back on our team that we cannot let go. He is a premier back. Stewart can be a beast but the type of runner he is and the way he's been playing makes him expendable. period. If we can get decent compensation for him, go for it, but there's also no problem in keeping him here. Its a win win scenario for us honestly as long as we resign DeAngelo. We can let Stewart go if another team wants a premier back and they think (along with Stewart) that he fits that mold.

Goodson has had a few great games and showed great potential, but right now, he's not a premier back and is honestly great in a Sproles type role for now.

You do realize successful franchises let make tough decisions and let go of solid players in favor of cheaper, younger replacements all the time, right?

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
