Williams wants to stay in Carolina

uuuuummmm what? do you just want to argue this morning? You see I said Stewart, right?

No not looking to argue. It just makes me furious when people are ready to burn B of A down because of other free agents we let go. Many of these other free agents were older and made more than Stewart and Williams.

Harris for instance, made roughly $3.5 million v. Williams at $2.1 and is older. To say Harris is a top 5 or 10 safety in the league is laughable, but people never complained about spending this money. Everyone all of a sudden is so fiscally responsible.

All I am saying is it is crazy to get rid of either. Stewart is under contract until 2013, and DWill has earned and is worth $6 million a year.

Not trying to get side tracked, but their are "other" players that are far worse team members and are older than DWill that should go before him.

Do people on this site realize that Stewart is making MORE than Williams at this point under a rookie contract? Stewart has a 5 year 14 million dollar contract that runs through 2013. Williams is due to get $2.1 this year up from less than a million last year.

He has been underpaid for years and hasn't complained about it. Now it is his turn to get paid and people are ready to cast him out. He deserves every penny of $6 million a year. Not only is he worth this on the open market, but you can also look at it as repayment for the years he was making less than a million as a pro bowl back.

people aren't rewarded new contracts for what they've done in the past. it's for what they're expected to do in the future.

and williams has only had 2 seasons that would be considered pro bowl production.

a new contract with $30-35 million guaranteed money? (5 years)

not gonna happen.

that's usually what happens when one person is drafted higher than the other.

why is it that no one seems to remember carolina trying to extend williams just after the 2008 season? both parties agreed to leave his contract alone...that sounds like a polite way of saying they didn't see eye to eye.

that might be why he isn't complaining.

I hope he doesn't read this forum. Many here are ready to replace him with a guy that had 2 good and 1 decent game that all ended in loses. Amazing....Don't get me wrong, I am happy Goodson is playing well. Did any of you actually watch those games? For 2 of those 3 games the O-line actually opened up holes for him and Stewart to run through. DWill was getting yards earlier in the year out of absolutely nothing. Almost all his gains were cutbacks. For those of you that don't know what a cutback is, it is basically an "oh crap" the middle is clogged so I have to turn on the jets and go outside. Not an easy way to make a living. JStewart found this out the hard way when he got the start and then blamed the OLine.

People here were ready to burn down B of A stadium for all of the free agents we let go this year. Now the best one on our team and one of the best in the NFL is up and you want to let him go because he is 27 for a guy that played good for 2 games and an injury prone power runner?

Were any of you fans back in the Biakabutuka days? He was the second coming of christ to Charlotte and it didn't work out well. I hope Goodson and Stewart work out, but you don't start trading proven elite running backs for rookies.

Williams patiently waited his turn to start in Carolina when he probably deserved to start earlier. The Panthers rewarded him by drafting Stewart in the first round and pretty much slapping DWill in the face. Does DWill pitch a fit or ask to be traded? No, he shows up for work and takes it a step farther by embracing Stewart. Can you name me another running back duo that gets along as well as these two? DWill could have made this miserable for Carolina and Stewart (remember Peppers). Now it is time for him to get paid after everything he has done for us and the consensus here is to trade him for a guy that has 3 decent games. Simply Amazing!!!! Alright, I am off my soap box now...

Yeah, you're letting emotions get in the way of business. Um, no one is trying to let go of williams in favor of rookies since none of our backs are rookies to begin with LOL. And the team didnt let go of free agents, there were no free agents because of the cba, remember? They cut old veterans who were overpaid. Despite these obvious false statements people still agree with this post which isn't surprising

Goodson and Stew aren't rookies, but the last paragraph rings true for me. This guy is a great player and a great teammate, and unless he is asking for something insane, I say you sign him. Give him a bit of ground if you need to, he means that much to the team in the locker room.

If we don't need 4 good backs, let's trade Sutton. Can you really tell me you'd rather have Stew, Goodson, and Sutton, than Stew, Goodson, and DWill? I know the price tags are different but let's assume for a moment here we aren't going to be in a salary crunch next year.

Delhomme

The businessman in me sees Goodson/Stewart as the tandem for next year.

The fan in me really wants D-Will to get resigned for all reasons jtm as already explained

Foster never went over 1000 yards rushing in a season, had as many fumbles lost IN ONE SEASON as Dwill has had in HIS CAREER, scored nearly a third of the touchdowns... all while being on the team for longer and starting in front of DWill for a couple of those seasons.

how exactly is DWill Foster2.0? couple bad injuries that came later in his time here? meh. far far more valuable to us than Foster was.

Do you know how good Foster was going to be before he got injured?

Meh. It's a bit of an extreme example.

Anyways...people who are fighting for DWill have the same mentality that plagues this organization.

Be loyal to a team not a player. Those NE Patriots fans must hate all the stars they have let go over the years.

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
