Williams wants to stay in Carolina

I hope he doesn't read this forum. Many here are ready to replace him with a guy that had 2 good and 1 decent game that all ended in loses. Amazing....Don't get me wrong, I am happy Goodson is playing well. Did any of you actually watch those games? For 2 of those 3 games the O-line actually opened up holes for him and Stewart to run through. DWill was getting yards earlier in the year out of absolutely nothing. Almost all his gains were cutbacks. For those of you that don't know what a cutback is, it is basically an "oh crap" the middle is clogged so I have to turn on the jets and go outside. Not an easy way to make a living. JStewart found this out the hard way when he got the start and then blamed the OLine.

People here were ready to burn down B of A stadium for all of the free agents we let go this year. Now the best one on our team and one of the best in the NFL is up and you want to let him go because he is 27 for a guy that played good for 2 games and an injury prone power runner?

Were any of you fans back in the Biakabutuka days? He was the second coming of christ to Charlotte and it didn't work out well. I hope Goodson and Stewart work out, but you don't start trading proven elite running backs for rookies.

Williams patiently waited his turn to start in Carolina when he probably deserved to start earlier. The Panthers rewarded him by drafting Stewart in the first round and pretty much slapping DWill in the face. Does DWill pitch a fit or ask to be traded? No, he shows up for work and takes it a step farther by embracing Stewart. Can you name me another running back duo that gets along as well as these two? DWill could have made this miserable for Carolina and Stewart (remember Peppers). Now it is time for him to get paid after everything he has done for us and the consensus here is to trade him for a guy that has 3 decent games. Simply Amazing!!!! Alright, I am off my soap box now...

No one is WANTING to replace DWill. It is purely a case of economics. It is EXTREMELY difficult to keep three very good RB's...two of which will demand big contracts. It can Cap Strap your team if you have too much tied up in one position.

Lastly, good RB's are much easier to find than you think....no way you tie up $15M a year in that position....what the Dwill and then Stewart contracts will cost us.

You are letting your emotions and love for a player cloud your decision. This is the tough part of running a team.

Actually, I think I am being just the opposite of emotional. Most people on this forum are ready to sign off on Goodson after a couple of games. How many one hit wonders at the running back position happen every year. Here are a few from this year that jump out at me: Ryan Torain, Brandon Jackson, Donald Brown, Shonn Greene, Ryan Matthews, CJ Spiller, etc. Everyone was ready to name these players the future of their franchises and so far it hasn't worked out. Is Goodson in this category....who knows but you definitely don't start replacing elite running backs with rookies.

People in Charlotte did the same with Fred Lane.

The going rate for elite running backs is $6-7 million a year. This is what AP, Gore, Jackson are making. What CJ is making is laughable b/c he is under rookie contract. So most on this forum thought Peppers was worth $15 million a year at age 30, but DWill is not worth $6-7 at age 27. I can name a lot more DE's that are better and younger. You will be hard pressed to do the same for running backs. Not to mention DWill is 40% less the cost. I would think a 4 year contract would be reasonable.

I'd rather we trade Stewart.

Do people on this site realize that Stewart is making MORE than Williams at this point under a rookie contract? Stewart has a 5 year 14 million dollar contract that runs through 2013. Williams is due to get $2.1 this year up from less than a million last year.

He has been underpaid for years and hasn't complained about it. Now it is his turn to get paid and people are ready to cast him out. He deserves every penny of $6 million a year. Not only is he worth this on the open market, but you can also look at it as repayment for the years he was making less than a million as a pro bowl back.

What 3 very good running backs to we have on our team? Please tell me we are not anointing Goodson a very good running back after a couple of games. Is Brian Westbrook a very good running back because he had a good game last night? I bet we could get him cheap also. Please tell me where this running back tree is planted? Last time I checked it was very difficult to find good running backs. Even the Patriots have struggled to find one of these.

    • It didn’t feel like we’re the Bills bc we’re not a consistent conference contender yet we’re a rebuilding team. But with the game on the line we played just like the Bills went straight down the field and scored a tuddy then converted a 2pt conversion I have to give credit where credit is due. And the chiefs played us like we were the Bills in an AFC championship game, drive down the field and kicked a walk off FG to win at the end very similar to me. Are saying our defense stunk yesterday? Vs an elite offense team with elite coaching an elite QB man idk what you want them to do. KC does these things to the best defenses in the league consistently to win AFC chips and Super Bowls let’s not devalue who they are. I saw us play KC to the wire and barely lose defense did its thing as much as it could. Bingo!!! We’re also forgetting how injured we’ve been defensively this year, yes we need to build up the D but adding a few pieces and D Browns successful rehab should make us a very strong unit again. Couple that with the offense we saw yesterday and we’re winning our division.
    • Canales deserves a lot of credit. I'm very pleased. He's definitely making strides with Bryce. I also think some of his lack of commitment to Bryce as the starter is to motivate Bryce. I think he liked what he saw when Bryce was benched.  Even the Defense looks tremendously better with just a couple more pieces getting healthy. Wonnum has made our pass rush viable again.  I would love to see this team with one more good player across the defensive front, DT or an edge rusher.
    • I didn’t see any limitations yesterday
