Williams wants to stay in Carolina

Nick Going rushed for 100+ yards in 5 games and now he is a FA. Just cause you break the 100 yrd mark dose not mean your special. Besides Goodson has not even got 5 100+ games and everyone thinks he is going to be Dwills replacement. :smilielol5:

This is the frustrating part because people think we have all this depth at running back based on Sutton in the preseason and Goodson having two decent games. Stewart hasn't shown he is a reliable starter and it is a whole different ball game being a starter v. coming in fresh in the 2nd half when the D is tired. The majority of Stewarts runs last year were in the 2nd half after DWill tired them out for 2 or 3 qtrs.

The fact there is even a debate about this subject is beyond me. People on this site need to quit talking about this stuff and even worse the Charlotte paper needs to quit reporting it. If I was DWill after everything he has done for us, I would be looking to skip town. The guy made around $750k in 08 and 09 when he had pro bowl years. I don't know how IR works, but I doubt DWill is getting any bonuses by not playing.

Snake fist, when did I say rushing for 100 yards makes you special? I never said anything about Tolbert being special or elite or anything of the sort. I named plenty of average backs that started on super bowl teams. And I showed how the packers and chargers were not in the same situation concerning the RB position as the Panthers. Apples/oranges, DeAngelo has an accute injury - Stewart has been dealing with this nagging achillies issue for a few years now.

Listen, I've got nothing against Stewart but it's ridiculous to argue that he's as good or better than DeAngelo at this point. You can argue that it makes more sense to trade DeAngelo because of age or money, but not because Stewart is a better HB, that's just silly.

Tolbert had two decent games against the Broncos and Colts which were both blow out games. The whole rest of the year he has averaged around 30-40 yards a game. I guess since he has had two good games we should anoint him LT's replacement as people are doing here with Goodson. LOL:rolleyes:

The fact is they've adjusted to life without LT. Their running game isn't their problem, special teams is.

What are y'all arguing about again? I got lost a few pages back. Injuries? The better running back? the more trade-able? It doesn't matter folks and your debate keeps going in circles.

When it comes down to it, again: we should re-sign / tag Williams regardless if we're trying to trade him or not. Then its a win-win scenario no matter your opinion on who you think is better or which rb can have more production. D'lo claims he wants to be here, the majority of fans want him to stay, what's the problem? This is the one part of the team we don't need to be arguing about right now when we have much crappier problems and situations.

Got no problem with keeping Williams, but this team would have a running game without him. He's very good, but this team has the depth to absorb losing him in FA--that is my main point. Nobody's asking Goodson or Stewart alone to carry the load--none of our backs have been asked to do that since they entered the league, theyve all split carries and complimented each other.

I also take issue with the notion that Stewart's injuries are somehow more worrisome than Williams', Catman. Stewart had a nagging toe injury that didnt cause him to miss any games, which has since been fixed, and only missed games this year because he took a hit that would have concussed anyone. Williams has missed games even with Stewart there to take the pressure off of him, thats a fact. They have both been nicked up.

And its also a fact that you dont need a single, elite back to be competitive in this league, despite what Snake Fist will try and lead you to believe. Stewart has the ability to do that, anyway, he's just not your favorite back on the roster.

I understand if someone looks at Stewarts production earlier in the year as a sign of a problem, but he's the most talented back on the roster and has produced since day one, so i tend to think he'll bounce back from his struggles of earlier in the year especially if the offensive line plays better--he's shown signs of doing that already.

Haven't you heard? It's out with the proven players and in with the inexperienced! Who needs a Top 5 NFL RB when you have Mike Goodson? Heck, Goodson proved his skill in 3 games! WOWWW!!!! So he's obviously better than Williams, right?

If you are ready to get rid of a Top 5 NFL back after Goodson had 2 good games and 1 decent one, then you are an idiot. Keep the best tandem in the league and bring in a vet 3rd stringer if that's the case. But at this point only Williams is a FA at the RB position, so we can keep all 3 backs next season if our new coach isn't a dumb sh*t.
