Williams wants to stay in Carolina

exactly what part didn't have a foundation? The part where I pointed out Deangelo has missed more games than Stewart or the part where I said running backs really arent that hard to find?

It was pointed out that Dwill was on IR because we needed a QB and he could have been ready 3 weeks after his injury. He was stashed because it gives the Panthers leverage in negotiations. Secondly Good Running backs are indeed hard to find. Ask Greenbay, NE, and SD and they will tell you this. Hell before Dwill we were hard pressed to find a truly good RB.

DWill is still a young man and at the midpoint in a long-term running back's career. He's also suffered his first real injury and at about the time that many others have -- that creates one of those make or break moments in a running back's career. Some fade away, some trade away for big dollars, some dig down and figure out that this is where they can make a stand with a team and reach for some modicum of greatness.

I hope we don't lose him in free agency. He's a good young man and has the kind of work ethic that can bring him out of this kind of injury stronger of body and purpose. Keep him alongside JStew for their entire careers and you could see a Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier (sp) situation where both had their moments in the sun and are part of NFL lore.

And this is a team that needs a veteran presence onboard, especially one who went through the sea change that Williams went through after speaking with Vinnie Testaverde. If he can pass that wisdom on, we'll have a team of players nearing their full potential rather than a bunch of loud mouths and lousy performances like you see with the Bengals and Cowboys of late.

well yeah obviously especially to a young, competing team with a great qb that might need a passing option (coughGREENBAYcough) but ted thompson is allergic to trading draft picks

Really we are in a glut with RBs. Even if we traded Stewart or Goodson next year we would still have a north south runner in Sutton. He did well last year and he was a threat out of the backfield. Amazing how a few years of drafting will change a team.

Well said and I agree 100%. Have some pie. The notion that some have that good running backs grow on trees is comical. We have only had 2 elite running backs in the history of the Panthers and there aren't many teams more dedicated to the run than us. A good running back is going to probably cost GBay a Super Bowl run this year.

We have a glut of RBs? Then why should we throw money at Williams? Other than the old "he's my most favorite player"deal?

Because he is our best RB out of the bunch,YPC should tell you that. Also he is our best pass blocking back we have also. Thats a big deal when you have a young QB. Lastly if we are going to trade a RB its going to be one under contract so we would need a complete back on our team.

He's clearly the best one.

Stewart is the most physically talented but hasn't showed it.

agreed. Really if Stewart would have put up a solid year I would have had less of a problem letting Dwill walk but Goodson having a good season and Stewart having a bad one only muddies the water for me.

I agree that Williams is a very good player and has the most production, and I don't dislike him though I think some people think I do. I just believe if we were to take steps to bolster the passing game--namely Luck and veteran TE and/or WR, and offensive line--get healthy and add depth, that we could find production in the running game with Stewart and Goodson, and the world would not end.

Well SD thought the same thing but LT is having a great year with the Jets and SD is struggling to find a back worth the load. IMO you just dont let talent walk out the door unless you have too(like the peppers deal). Also Im just not sold on stewarts durability. I think you need a 3rd guy on the roster to come in when he goes down. I just dont think he can make it threw a season without some kind of injury. Stewart just reminds me of Foster. Loads of talent crippled by injury.

Didn't Tolbert just rush for 100 yards in his last two games? San Diego is running the ball with a no name converted fullback from Coastal Carolina. That actually helps my point.

Tolbert and Mathews are both behind LT this year. I think its clear who are the better back is. YPC and YPG are both better then SD and LT is in a two back system.
