I used to try to get my mom to shop there so i could go ice skating, had a couple hockey games there too. Is Eastland still open? I havent been there in a decade

No, its closed. Too much crime! That place went downhill reallll fast.

But they say they are planning to reopen it. Dont see very much luck in that.

this is from wikipedia:

On June 28, 2010, ownership of the inner stores, parking lot and a few of the smaller outside buildings surrounding Eastland Mall were transferred to Boxer Properties according to a deed filed in the Mecklenburg County Courthouse on that date. The fate of the anchor stores however hang in the balance. Boxer is expected to bring in retail and small-office tenants that fit with the diverse nature of Charlotte's east side, similar to the company's redevelopment of La Gran Plaza in Fort Worth, Texas, with a planned reopening of the mall by Christmas 2011.

Oh, and anyone remember that huge sport bar that was across from the current Infiniti & near Value City on Independence? I remember that being pretty cool...tons of tvs

Best thread I've seen in a long time, and I'm proud to be a native Charlottean.

Remember Photon - the laser tag mecca on Albemarle next to the Regency Theater? Back then, it was justifiable to construct a building that large just for laser tag.

How about Service Merchandise and that long roller/conveyor belt that they would send your packages down? Remember the short stints of Hannaford grocery stores, Pharmor drug stores, and the HQ (Home Quarters)?

Anyone else recall Gus Purcell's seafood restaurant on Independence, or the Hideaway fishcamp on Monroe Road (used to be in the country)?

What about that store Three Guys, eventually became a Kroger?

Roll-Around on Delta Rd (now Harris), The movie theater in Eastland that had the large murals of Charlie Chaplin and others on the wall outside the theater?

The Oaken Bucket and Wild Bull were the shiznit at Carowinds.

Wrestling at the Grady Cole Center, also where I saw my first concert (local band Sugar Creek).

Sorry for any repeats, I just got on a roll...:D
