"it isn't as bad as it could be/has been" doesn't cut it. it still sucks and it still isn't getting wins or scores. it still isn't good enough.

Oh as far as not throwing TD's i would have to blame our Redzone Efficiency. No one on our team is scoring TD's.

The fact of the matter is, that a large percent of these "checkdowns" are designed short passing plays. The swings to Goodson, the quick plays to the TE, all very prevalent with Davidson at the helm.

It's easy to get frustrated with Davidson, but the OL has been so abysmal that we really don't have time for longer passing plays.

I can't say whether Jimmy will be good or not, he's certainly improved in some areas, but hasn't in others, but you can't completely fault him for all the short passes when it falls to the blame of the offense as a whole.

Hint: If you don't throw the ball down the field, you can't throw touchdowns. When he throws desperations heaves like he did to LaFell, it was right on the money. Why not play with more desperation and takes chances. It isn't like he is avoiding picks as it is, might as well throw a few deep ones as well. At 1-10 we have little to lose.

Hint: If your OLine can't trade their roller skates for cleats then no QB will have time to hit their guys downfield.

Our WRs are terrible. Our OLine is terrible. He has a guy (or two) in his face as soon as he drops back and the receivers aren't exactly blowing DBs up left and right.

Same reasons why you saw Matt Moore throw a ton of INTs trying to force it deep. Clausen is just realizing the situation and taking what yards he can get while trying to limit turnovers.

I mean the guy still has a ton of things he needs to improve but I don't blame him for not trying to sling it downfield given the offensive system/playcalling/supporting cast.

You forgot to add that the wind was against him as well. Now we all know no QB could play against that. Thats why he has to throw a short ball all the time... Its the winds fault. :hurray:

He never drove us down into the redzone all day. The fieldgoals and Goodson's run were outside of the 20 when they happened.

Hint: you have to be in the redzone or throw the ball downfield to score touchdowns passing the ball. Yesterday we did neither.

yep. clausen just hasn't been able to get the team into scoring range. what success he had depended on the guys he actually hit being able to do something after the catch. none of it got the team into the redzone, though.

drives couldn't be sustained long enough or go deep enough into enemy territory to do much. it wasn't like he was playing some great passing defense either. they're ranked 19th. he should have been able to to more with it, esp. with the run game actually having some success yesterday.

He is scared of messing up, all he does is throw check downs and he throws it out of bounds, he refuses to throw it deep even if the window is there he won't do it, they have to be wide fuging open for him to throw it deep and even then it better not be more then 40 yards because that's his limit.

Wouldn't you be scared too. After the way we treated Jake when he threw a few INT's I would be scared to throw it downfield too. He is in a no win situation here. Throw it downfield for an interception and get crucified by the fans or dump off for short gains and still get crucified by the same fans.

He may very well be a serviceable QB or a future HOF. The truth is we don't know yet. However if we have the 1st pick next year and Luck is chosen then we have a wonderful QB competition to watch.
