so you spent 4 years learning some poo you wont even use? wow

What your degree is in doesn't matter as long as you have one. Most people I know that have a degree work in a field that isn't anywhere close to what they learned in college. The shipping manager here where I work has his degree in FORESTRY.

unless you're a friggin' doctor... a degree is nothing more than a piece of paper that shows you're willing to commit your time to something

my brother has a psychology degree from UNC and works in banking at the same company i do (but i didn't finish a single semester of college)

he might make a bit more than i do an hour. i just took the four years he spent partying in college to work my way to the same level he was able to get hired into because he had a degree

back on topic tho: hope you can find something soon

not entirely true

But being in business/sales, id rather take my chances hiring someone who committed their time to business studies, not music. Someone with a music degree would have to completely blow me away in an interview, to make me want to hire them over someone with a business degree.

If someone came to me right out of college with a music degree wanting to get into sales, My first thought would be "wtf is up with this?"

being in sales doesn't take a degree...

it takes a lot of ass kissing and such...

it does if you want to work for my company.

if you want to sell at Best Buy, then maybe not.

Dont get me wrong, i completely understand that having a degree doesnt mean poo as far as ability, im just stating the truth.

I would say in the interview, firstly, that my work experience speaks for itself. I'm lucky enough to have actual business experience right out of college.

I would also highlight the fact that the music degree I got was not a Bachelors of Arts but a Bachelors of Science. I spent 5 semesters in difficult Physics classes. Furthermore, being in music really can set you up for other fields if you know how to apply them. For example, sales is like a performance - and I'm no stranger to the stage. For business, I've been the booking agent/manager of every band I've been in with successful results.

Don't hate on music majors!!!

So if you wanted to be in business, why did you major in music? Either way, good luck.

I wanted to synthesize the two fields. Music Technology presented that option, however I had to gain my business experience outside of the university. With the state of the economy the way it is, the monetary status of the music industry is weak enough to where I am considering other options - but my love for music has never been stronger and I will continue to pursue my musical endeavours in my spare time.

Next question?
