Clausen is getting better every week. In my view, IF he is satisfying the critics by throwing downfield much more often successfully by the end of the season it would be hard to throw away that investment. Jimmy will never have the size or arm strength of a guy like Luck but he's a gamer and knows how to put his team in a position to win late in the fourth when it counts.

For those that will bring up the obvious pick late in the fourth yesterday, Rosario said after the game that it was a come-back route that he missed because he was tangled up with the DB.

For those keeping score re: QB's throwing downfield:

Jake Delhomme's leading receiver: Hillis (RB)

Colt McCoy's leading receiver: Hillis (RB)

Sam Bradford's leading receiver: Jackson (RB)

The only difference as many have mentioned is that the WCO guys have thier RB's as primary receivers and not check down receivers. The plays get off faster and the results are usually better.

No excuses though... fans want to see the ball thrown vertically and that is the standard Clausen will have to meet regardless of who is playing receiver. The upside, however, is that if he manages to improve in the passing game by the end of the season he will be playing at a much more advanced level than the other rookie QB's in the league who rarely throw downfield (i.e., over the middle) from the pocket and are likely playing with abbreviated playbooks.

Goodson and Stewart are on rookie contracts so they will be here. Williams is the wildcard and it will come down to money. Hopefully he get resigned but honestly as well as Goodson is playing, Williams won't be a big loss.

The big loss if this scenario occurs is the losing him and not getting any compensation. I guess the difficult part was not knowing how Goodson could be and if he could step in the role. Otherwise the Panthers should have tried to trade Williams before this season before the deadline (not an easy task) or they need to franchise tag and trade him.

I think the have a strategy and Williams just walking for nothing is not one of them.

They can franchise tag him and assure they either keep him or get something in return. If they don't tag him they are saying they wouldn't sign him back at any price. And that would be a big mistake. He deserves another contract and an 18 game schedule almost assures that we need 3 backs to get through the year.
