Should we keep Meeks

yes...considering the injuries we have had and how long the D is on the field I think Meeks has done a great job.

i say there is a chance meeks interviews for the HC job due to the Rooney rule

however, it needs to be a very aggressive 4-3 rather than the bed but don't break style that fox prefers and that keeps the team on the field forever.

lot's of people make a big deal about the offense not being able to stay on the field and not scoring early/often enough. the defense has had some massive problems on it's own. they can't get off the field and you can't blame it on not getting a rest. they start off the games like that and stay like that. they have only to blame themselves. any times they managed to get off the field quickly in the first part of the game has to do with them letting the other team score quickly. how many points have been given up in the first quarter or first half the past few weeks? that isn't the offenses fault. the bend, don't break model is broken.

that's a really annoying excuse everybody makes for the defense. "well well if we just held on to the ball for another 5 minutes and didn't go 3 and out the defense wouldn't be tired" ----yea, what about the defense giving up key 3rd downs? i'm not saying there hasn't been an example where the defense was tired out because the offense couldn't move the chains, but it doesn't happen as often as people would like to think.

We do need better players at key positions, like: DE, DT, DB (CB), OL, etc. but I'm not sold on it meaning that we can't do it with the players we have and better coaching. I really think that we have a good team rght now and that our coaches are not doing a good job of matching our talent against our opponents.

I am not a fan of the bend until you break cover 2 so no I dont want him at all. We have the talent to play a more aggressive 4-3 and play man under. We can keep the same personnel and do much more.

Teams run all over us because our DT's are bad, not because our DC is bad. With a couple DT's and an offense that could possess the ball we would have a top defense.

as good as Meeks' unit is playing is not good enough for any new HC to just walk in and say "hey, do what you want." Tomlin was a Cover 2 defensive 4-3 guy and was hired as HC for Pittsburgh, and he didn't remove LeBeau because you don't do that when the defense has consistently been as good as LeBeau's defenses have been.

in this situation Meeks isn't getting replaced because he sucks, but because his defensive philosophy doesn't match the new guy's philosophy coming in. If an offensive minded guy comes in it's less likely he gets replaced but there's still the probability. If we get someone like McDermott I don't see how it's conceivable he keeps Meeks as DC, they have two completely different approaches.

Yeah I agree. He's not an elite DC so a new HC will see him as dispensable. But he has done a good job here and, depending on who else is available, he'd be one of the guys on the current staff that we might want to keep.

Who do you guys think are some top DC's right now. I doubt if Tampa Bay or the Vikes will let theirs go. But I think that the Vikes DC has been brought up in our HC discussions.
