people crying about the dumpoffs (which were effective) obviously didn't watch Bradford against us. Sure he had a 100+ rating and two scores, but he hardly threw more than a few yards past the line of scrimmage. He rarely took five step drops, and he hardly ever touched the idea of reading a coverage.

and, by and large, he's expected to be a better QB than Clausen, yet he's being successful only because of the short game. Clausen may or may not wind up being great, but clearly he's being limited to what he's going to be doing out there. Lots of sideline throws, lots of combo routes where it's just the reads on that tree to go with the MOFO/MOFC read. Lots of dumps to the decent receiving RB.

Hell a few weeks ago it was all about how we needed more screens, screens were going to save us from damnation and give us all new cars, right? Now we're dumping to the back and it's the worst thing that ever happened, worse than when we couldn't get the ball to an eligible receiver.

If Andrew Luck didnt exist you guys wouldnt bash Clausen.

Luck seems to be a damn good, closest to a cant miss prospect at QB. Good for him. But this does not mean Jimmy sucks, as many have said.

So if you want Luck i'm not against you there, but anybody that looks at all the facts and says Jimmy sucks, is just being ignorant

What facts are you talking about? JC has done nothing but play scared, thrown to checkdowns, escape from pockets, and thrown a couple of hail Marys while running for his life. I have not seen any improvement. He is what I thought he was...an overhyped QB who is staring at a career as a backup.

the thing is, bradford is getting his team downfield consistently in scoring range and is getting them on the board. don't look now, but he's going to be heading into the playoffs. sure, a lot fo it has to do with a sucky division and they'll probably be facing the saints in the WC game and be 1 and done, but still, thats another rookie QB heading into the playoffs.

meanwhile, our rookie QB has 1 TD pass that was clumsily thrown to a wide open RB who had to wave around in one spot waiting for the QB to notice he was there.

game planning sucks, but clausen makes the decision what to do once that ball gets in his hands and it isn't keeping the team on the field, it isn't getting them down the field, and it isn't getting them into the endzone.

Comparing Clausen to Bradford is only so useful.

Clausen did move the team better last week than we've seen in a while I think. He's not doing enough, but at this point, it's not like we can trade Clausen for Bradford... and I don't think Bradford would look near as good as he does in STL. We're not a QB away from going to the playoffs. :P

Do you guys want us to start Pike? Null? BSP?? AE???

I am just curious, because a lot of you guys hounding on Clausen sucking and wanting better QB play also want Luck. You best keep rooting for the status quo, else we may not get your man.

It's fine to point out Clausen's flaws, 'cause he does have a lot... but is there really anything to do about it?

Im starting to see that people gave weinke more of a chance than they are giving clausen.. it really boggles my damn mind.

Clausen is a rookie, guys, take a breath! Very few rookie qbs succeed immediately in the NFL, especially when they are forced to lead a toothless offense without consistent play around them.

I'm not yet prepared to say that Clausen is the answer, but I will emphatically declare it way too soon to dismiss him!

well obviously you failed to notice EVERYBODY has a lot of success against us with dump off passes because we cant cover them worth a poo, clausen tries dumpoffs but they are long telegraphed before he throws the fuging ball and there for aren't successful for us, end of story, he can't play in this league

you would pass up on luck to see if you were right about clausen?

I think very few would say that - but as I think you've said, and others have said or implied, if Clausen improves enough to move us out of the "Luck Sweepstakes", so be it.

Else, we'll have two potentially good QBs for a new coach to groom. It would not be a terrible position to be in.

Yes sir, I would. This team has many holes to fill other than quarterback. I would trade out of the number one position to get extra picks. This strategy is a proven one (Cowboys in the Jimmy Johnson era).

Plus, for all the hype (remember the Clausen hype???), Luck is still an UNPROVEN commodity when it comes to his NFL chops (just like Clausen).

I say, give Clausen a good surrounding cast, then judge him accordingly. It is far too soon to judge this young gun.

While he is unproven in the NFL, he has more tools than Jimmy that would lead to the belief he can be more successful.

Jimmy literally has the tools of a HS QB. He was hyped because of his readiness. We were lied to. Now he is just a short QB with no arm and no accuracy. Those come along every year so why try and make him something he's not? Why not build around a guy that has the tools to be elite rather than try and build a guy up that only has the tools to be average?
