I'd like to see a new concept on the Panther's D. Its called defend the pass and make tackles!

This is not about the 3-4 or the 4-3 its about how our New DC will approach the game and how he will use his personnel. Like if we will see more man to man, bump and run, some coverages to cover the lack of talent we might have with our DEs this season, and so on. Or will we still go with the bend but dont break and rush 4 to get pressure like we have done for 7 years.

I hate when People say "This is Fox's D and things will stay the same" because is has been reported that Del Rio used more zone and Trgo used more man so thus its not Fox D its the coordinators D and Fox just makes sure they are doing the right thing and keeping the D in the top 10.

What would I like to see.? I want Kemo to continue to occupy the middle and play over the center and take up 2 people. I would like us to get a big fast tackle on the right side in the Jenkins mode (hated to see him go). Then we need to get a FA DE who can hold the edge and get 7 or 8 sacks. I figure Johnson and Brayton colllectively did a good job as a pair on the left side. Lewis makes a great Al Wallace type 6th guy and Walker et all are all decent backups.

It would leave us replacing Peppers and picking up a dominant right tackle to hold the line and get pressure on passing downs. With the trade we should get for him, as well as the cap savings, there is no reason we can't get 2 quality guys who can contribute right away much like Peppers did his first year and Otah did this past season. Rookies can really make a difference with great coaching.

Getting back to a tackle scheme like we had prior to Jenkins trade is a big deal for me. I think if you have that and add a high motor DE (not necessarily an uber-talent, but a guy who's relentless) the loss of Julius Peppers will not seem anywhere near as significant as it would otherwise.

Like, Chris Canty? He will probably leave Dallas this offseason and would probably fit nicely in Fox's "oversized defensive linemen" set. He's 300+, and while he doesn't have a whole lot of stats, it's usually because 3-4 down linemen never usually do.

Other teams will look to just plug him in to fill space in their 3-4s just like we did with Kemo in our system. Plus the market isn't exactly a pricey one for these type players. We can give him the conversion in a new system and also not have to pay that much, plus he gives us a nice inexpensive alternative.

I dont really know much about the guy but can he pass rush? We are in dire of one. I would be nice to have a wall in the middle also.

It's all academic until we get the defensive line sorted out.

It's my understanding from what I have read that Fox was in control of defensive team meetings and strategies while Trgovac (T) although the DC was simply responsible for implementing Fox’s strategies. Until the team can sort out who might be the defensive starters next season, then strategies will be put on hold. Fox will have a big say in defensive strategies as that is his specialty and apparently devotes most of his attention to defense during practice sessions, unless he is willing to relinquish some control and hire someone who he thinks is as good as or better than himself in designing strategies. My guess is there won't be much change in defensive strategies next season. Fox will use what he is familiar with based on the personnel available and the matchups for each game.

I wish they would use more man-to-man coverage as they seem to get eaten alive at times in zone coverage when defensive backs and linebackers switch coverage in the middle of a play when receivers are moving in and out of a defensive player’s zone, and seem slow to pick up receiver coverage responsibility at times.

The defensive coaching staff's lack of adaptability in the first half against the Cardinals was appalling. Waiting until half time to make changes was "a day late and a dollar short" (giving up 27 pts in the 1st half and 6 pts in the 2nd half). I just wonder if Fox forced T to wait until half time to make major adjustments on defense, or if T had much latitude at all in the design and application of first half strategies.

In other words, it appears it was Fox who was in control of the defensive strategy and would not change his strategy until half time. Adaptability is a major key to survival. Banging one’s head against the wall doing the same thing over and over expecting different results is not a solution. Some people have deemed that type of behavior as part of the definition of insanity.

Let’s hope we see some better strategies and implementations next year.

And Peppers is looking for a geographical and defensive system change-fix outside of himself. If he can’t get away from his blocker(s) here, how can he expect to do it in another system? He is not that motivated. Putting out 110% on every play has not been something he has been capable of doing. I suppose he mentally visualizes himself being more motivated in another system with different teammates, coaches and defensive roles. He needs to find a solution within rather than outside himself.

So, that’s my arm chair suggestive rant, as if it’s going to make any difference what we say.

Dallas runs a 3-4 so he's usually teaming up with Marcus Spears and Jay Ratliff to take on 5 olinemen. So we know he's had experience against double teams, and he has been able to sack a QB a few times, but his stats are deflated anyway, because of the person that lines up behind or to his right (DeMarcus Ware)

I know he's solid against the run tho.
