glanville didn't want favre because favre was a trainwreck physically and mentally. he was addicted to pain killers, drank, and partied constantly. he didn't take football seriously. glanville and favre clashed on a regular basis. favre wanted to be traded.

green bay took a chance with him despte the fact he didn't pass his physical...it was years before favre ever even bothered to learn nfl terminology or even read defenses.

fox doesn't hate clausen, and clausen doesn't have the issues favre had.

despite what some people want to see happen on draft day, clausen is carolina's future.

Fox does not like Clausen...but I'm sure there are plenty of teams that would make a play for Clausen based on nothing other than his "pedigree" alone. I'd love for Clausen to develop here at the end of this season so we can use the #1 pick on another position of need.

You mean all the teams that passed on him before we drafted him in the second round? A few who had passed on him twice? All those teams that can see tape on him playing in actual NFL games now?

Look, I feel sorry for The Kid, but there's not another team in the league that would touch him with a 10' pole right now. Maybe he comes back in and plays lights out for the rest of the season, then someone might be interested, but then we wouldn't want to trade him, would we?

The Kid's best hope right now is that he survives the season and the next coach thinks he's worth the rehab effort.

Assuming we are in position to do it... I think we should take Luck, keep Clausen, sign a vet backup that would be a good mentor to these young guys and put Pike on the trading block.

If we get an offensive minded coach in here who has a thing for Luck and we get the top pick, then some of what folks are postulating could come true.

Much more likely is we go with a defensive minded coach who wants the picks on the defesive side of the ball and all this Luck speculation goes out the window. We keep Clausen and Pike and bring in a veteran who can start right away. We load up on defensive line and corner and sprinkle in some O-line and a receiver or two.

I figure with a better offensive scheme we will be more competitive. There are other guys besides Luck out there who could do the job. He seems pretty raw with only 2 years of college experience.

With that being said we are not going to get rid of Clausen. He is cheap and signed for several years. No matter what happens with Luck, we are not getting rid of Clausen. He woulld make a good back-up.

Take whatever we can get for him, Pike showed enough in college that someone out there will think then can make him into something. The Panthers were afraid to waive him and put him on the PS because several teams had their eye on him.

No point having a rookie QB and two 2nd year QB's. Would rather hedge our bet on Luck with Clausen then with Pike.

People seem to forget this, glad you brought it up.

I wouldn't be too sure about the way other teams feel about Clausen. He's shown flashes of ability, and there are probably 31 offensive coordinators out there who feel like they could get more out of him than Davidson has. He's shown steady improvement, and he's been playing with a terrible offensive line and rookie wide receivers, against teams that are constantly stacking the box and rushing the passer.

Put him in Cleveland, and he would be turning in McCoy's numbers. Put him in St. Louis, he would be turning in Bradford's. Put either in Carolina and they would turn in his numbers.

The Favre example is proof enough that even if a player is a train-wreck in one place, others will see him and believe that they have what it takes to make a quality player out of him.

Even if we get a defensive coach, if we can take Luck we probably will. The value is too high not to.

With that said, even if we take Luck I agree with you and expect Clausen to start next year. He'll have a new coach, a new system, and an entire team behind him with a new attitude. Luck would get to sit on the bench for a year and learn the NFL game, Clausen would get to showcase his skills, and both he and Pike could grow into Matt Schaub style trade bait.
