Hurney and mortgaging the future...

The difference between Luck and Clausen is that Jimmy was seen as a late first rounder, who eventually slid to round two in some draft boards. Luck is seen as the FIRST PICK. That's a huge difference. That's why you take the gamble. Your only other better option is to bring in a FA vet, test Jimmy, and if he bombs, draft a QB next year. Is next year's crop better than Luck (if Luck even comes out this year)?

If Clausen doesn't show more over these last 6 weeks of the season, we don't don't even begin discussing trade unless it's him for a pick.
i'm thinking package clausen and a 6th rounder or something for a 2nd rounder. then pick up a FA vet. or keep him for some reason. just think some other team could use him more than we could.

too much will depend on the new coach to even really say what is going to be best.
yeah, just the point of this thread that i don't have total confidence in hurney being able to make the right decision what to do with this draft's first pick, build now or win now and what he is willing to give up to achieve his goals.

Back to the point.

I was upset after the Otah pick, then pissed at Hurney and wanted him fired after the EB pick. After the AE pick I just have to laugh when anyone defends him any more.

I don't say too much about the D Will pick, then the Stew pick as I would get flamed hard on here but two 1st round RB's in 3 years was also simi retarted.

people refuse to see it, but the williams pick was not intentional.

they needed a back up to foster, but had no idea that williams would fall to them. if williams was not on the board, they would have picked up an rb in the later rounds.

stewart was intentional. williams hadn't proven anything up to that point, and fox wanted to reinforce the run game. beef up the o-line and bring in a downhill runner.

stewart was the only back in the 2008 draft that fit the bill, and he wasn't going to make it out of the first round.

The Panthers knew they had a great back in D-Will, to say otherwise is foolish imo. His 2007 season numbers were pretty damn hot for a backup. However, the reality is that it's a two-back league, and the Panthers were very very high on Stewart and for a team built around the run, two backs is a good idea!
