edwards is a project& most of us knew this going into the season. if he pans out great but if not the pick we gave up is not something that could hurt us beyond next years draft because we don't know for sure if we would draft the same player the patriots do even if he turns out to be a star

If armanti is still not getting reps next season it was a horrible trade. Till then its a huge risk that hasn't panned out yet.

it was an awful move no matter what he does. good or bad. it was a dumb pick at that spot...not EVEN factoring in the traded draft pick.

You didn't say *making an impact*. I would say Lafell is making an impact, and Brown is starting to come into his own. Lafell just took longer to get going than Gettis so I'm not putting him there yet, but I think he has the potential to big the next Moose on this team... so IMO that is a big deal. Brown is starting to look better in the last half of this season, but he's certainly no Peppers replacement =(

It's NOT pure speculation to say Edwards wouldn't have been there. It's speculation to say he WOULD have been there, considering the only sources on the matter (the panthers FO and Gantt) claim that he wouldn't be there. If you don't believe them, so be it, but I'm betting they are right... and I bet he'd look great on a team like the Colts who would actually find ways to utilize him.

edit: why is there this artificial boundary between draft rounds that prevents a guy from being drafted to be an impact player in that round?? I don't understand. We have gotten about 6 good, talented starters out of the last 2 drafts, another 3-4 situationally good guys... I mean, this team is loaded with talent from drafts in the last 4 years, and now we have to only consider those picks above the 3rd round to be any good...?

What was hurney intending on using to trade up for clausen? Based on what he has done the previous two years you would have to believe that it would have been this years first.

This is where you are wrong. When Hurney did try to move up in the draft, all the teams he talked to wanted a 1st rounder in return. But Hurney wasn't willing to make that trade (or wasn't allowed to). So no, we wouldn't be in a different situation, because it would have never happened. Check your facts next time.

I won't comment on Clausen because I didn't watch him in college. But I was pissed we drafted AE on draft day. That was before hindsight. Drafting a QB who you hope to switch to WR/KR when there are guys who you could have drafted without trading up is a dumb move IMO. I hope it works out, but that doesn't change the fact that I thought it was a dumb move then and I still do now.

Exactly. But the difference is... your argument isn't backed up by facts. History may repeat itself, but Hurney clearly said that he wasn't willing to trade up into the 1st round to get Clausen. (I currently don't have the article with me, but I promise you that's true.) Until you show some facts your argument is invalid.
