Who to Root for week 12 (#1 pick edition)

One of two things is going to happen if we get the #1 overall pick. Either way, if we get the top pick we shouldn't be drafting Luck.

#1-no CBA is signed and we end up with the top pick and grab Luck and get hamstringed with a rookie QB that has a 60+ million dollar contract. Who can't even play his first year in the league.

#2- a CBA is signed and a rookie salary cap is set into place which would then make this years top pick the most lucrative trading chip in a draft in possibly forever.

#1 is not as big of a deterent but if no CBA is in place then you know that JR is not going to drop that kind of cash on a completely unknown QB.

Without a 2nd in next years draft, if a CBA and a rookie cap is in place, it would be fool-hardy to not use that pick as a way to grab multiple picks in the draft.

Yeah, yeah, Luck is the greatest thing since sliced bread but if the team has the chance to grab 4 players instead of 1 it would be worth it. All day.

Why do you think JR wouldn't pay for a QB? 1 year of cheapness out of 15 doesn't make it a normal occurance.. your talking out of your ass.

You have to take chances to be successful. You don't draft a DL or CB when your offense is the main problem. I don't see Marcel Dareus or Patrick Peterson lining up behind center and scoring points for us. So unless you plan on holding an opponent to under 10 points a game every single freakin game then drafting one of those guys isn't going to help us one damn bit. We have had the worst QB situation in the league for the last...3 years. You don't waste a golden opportunity to draft a guy that could be a legitimate franchise QB for the next 15 years because of the numbers. If JR isn't willing to spend money on the ONE player that can make this team a superbowl contender going forward then he needs to sell this team because he is a schmuck of an owner.

I still think Luck may not come out for the draft. Then our best play is to get a mauler of a right tackle and move Otah (who has probably lost some mobility) to right guard where he can tear up some DTs.

And yes, the Bengals have got to be the worst team in the league. Even though they beat us, with the talent level they have, there is NO excuse for being that lousy. Palmer, Chad JOHNSON, TO, Cedric Benson.

2 win teams thru yesterday-Mathematically the the closest to us

Lions,Bills,Bengals

3 wins teams- very much in the race as well

Broncos,Cardinals,Vikings,Cowgirls,Browns,niners

4 win teams-very unlikey but still in the running

Rams, Texans

Here are the 2 and 3 win teams remaining schedules. In bold are other 2-3 win teams.

The Cardinals still play the niners twice, the cowboys, Broncos,Rams, and us still.

All teams that are still in contention for the pick. This is good news, cuz it forces at least 1 of these teams to cancel themselves out of the sweepstakes.

Th Lions have a a fairly tough schedule left and may not win another game.

Bears,Packers,Bucs,Dolphins and Vikings.

The Bills have the Steelers,Vikings,Browns,Doplhins,Patriots, and the Jets left.

They could lose out from here as well.

The Bengals are in serious trouble with the Saints,Steelers,Browns, Chargers and Ravens left..The only decent shot is against the Browns.

The Cowboys still gotta face the Eagles twice,Colts, Skins, and Cardinals.

The Browns should cancel themselves or others out of the race. They play us obviosuly, then the dolphins,Bills, Bengals, ravens and steelers.

The Broncos got the chiefs, cardinals, raiders,Texans and Chargers

The Vikes have, skins, bills, Giants,Bears, Eagles, and the Lions

And Finally heres the niners schedule- Cards, Packers,Seahawks,Chargers Rams and Cards again

So after anaylizng that our biggest competion is going to be as follows IMO

1.Bengals

2.Bills

3.Lions

4.Cowboys

5.Browns (especially if we beat them)

6.49ers

7.Vikings

8.Cardinals

So its a nine team race, but could quickly fall to a 5-6 team race after this weekend.

Its not that JR WON'T pay for a QB but I don't think that he is going to pay that kind of cash for a QB that has never played a down in the NFL. I am not saying that he won't or shouldn't draft Luck but that I just don't think he will do it. IF there is no rookie salary cap next year.

I also believe that the FO is still high on Clausen. Clausen was JR and Hurney's guy and with the way things have gone and the team has played they probably believe that he never got a fair shake. I think that if Clausen shows ANYTHING in the coming weeks then they will stick with him next year.

I understand that, but I also think that he's smart enough to not pass on a talent that is Andrew Luck. We have nothing invested in Clausen at this point, and he hasn't shown anything to prove he's going to be a good QB, and there is a good chance that if we are sitting in position to draft Luck in the next 6 weeks, then he won't have proven anything then... One just does not a QB prospect like that walk slip through your fingers.

I agree, and I think that Luck would be the wise pick, especially if JR wants Harbough (which could be a mistake but that is for a different thread).

However, I am just not going to get all worked up about Luck like some of the people on here are.

Hurney and JR were both high on Clausen. Clausen has not had the year that a lot of people hoped for, I would in no way call him a bust yet or even say that there is no chance that he could ever be elite. There is a lot of potential still there.

With Fox seemingly trying to poo the bed as much as possible it gives JR and Hurney a good reason to stick with Clausen a few more years. There is no way that someone could say that Clausen was given the opportunity to prove himself and couldn't do it. This TEAM is playing like poo and I don't think that there is anything that someone could take from this season from a talent evaluation perspective.

I wouldn't mind if they draft Luck, but I am pretty sure that the person who is going to be the next HC of the Panthers is the guy that says, "I can work with Jimmy Clausen and turn him into the QB that he should be.".

Basically, if I were you guys, I wouldn't get too excited about getting the #1 pick and Luck until he is on stage holding a Panthers jersey.

That's the consensus, but you get the feeling from Darin Gantt's reporting that Clausen isn't as important as some people think. If Luck is ours to take, I have no doubt that we will take him..

And I'm a Clausen supporter, as you can see by my sig.

Clausen himself has said nobody has told him he's the future since preseason.

I don't think he's a lock in the ways some are saying to be who the FO hang their hat on.

Say what you want about him, but even though you can't blame the losses on him, he has really had some abysmal performances. If he keeps improving on the TB game though I think we'll see some good games and we may not even end up with the #1 pick.
