in Luck?

As others have said, he hasn't even declared... Plus, what a way for a new coach to enter... a QB controversy on his hands as soon as he arrives...

Our offensive woes are mainly attributable to horrible playcalling and poor pass protection (and opening of running lanes if you want to go there)...

I'm not a Clausen nut hugger by any means, but I still say he is a better overall pro QB candidate than Bradford is... Put him on a team that knows how to run an offense and give the QB time to actually, you know, throw the ball... Bradford would be just as bad in our current system...

What's this?

A post with some common sense?

Oh heck no!!

There will be none of that!! It's a new year! We have to go crazy at this year's new "can't-miss" prospect! It's guaranteed Luck's a HoFer!! Plus, he's a QUARTERBACK!

Do you know how much media attention we'd get?!?! Finallyl!

Honestly I don't understand why people have given up on Clausen so early. I understand you almost have to take luck if he's there.

I would rather wait and see how Clausen finishes this year before I want to draft a franchise QB the 2nd year in a row.

I'd rather trade the #1 to use to build around Clausen if his play deserves it.

I don't know that Luck, or Harbaugh for that matter, would be smart moves for us...

If so, you might as well get rid of Hurney for drafting Clausen... I don't want to go into a season with Clausen and Luck (or another rookie QB for that matter) fighting it out... The loser of that battle will pretty much be seen as a busted pick, and will carry little to zero trade value...

The smart thing to do would be fix the parts around our QB that are more broken... Start with the OL, maybe get another WR who is a solid #1 (there are a few in this draft)... Get our backs healthy... Get rid of Davidson... Then give Clausen the reigns and tell him that there are no excuses... Bring in a veteran as an insurance policy to at least keep us respectable if Clausen sinks...

Also, we need to get some LB depth and a solid DT...

Fix the bad play calling and the lack of protection, and the offense looks exponentially better... Patch the defense up a little and keep them hungry, and we'll be back in contention... regardless of who the QB is... If we can win games with Jake Delhomme as the QB, we can win them with anyone...

I agree with the exception of IF Clausen stinks. Oh but he does.

Clausen has played small. I am starting to question his leadership as well

lol he's a damn rookie on a crappy team, bro... Plus, Smitty is basically our leader right now, and how is a rookie supposed to come in and lead someone with Smitty's ego?

Clausen has all the tools, but our inept front office and personnel have not given him the ability to use them...

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning couldn't do much with a three second window and rookie WRs on every passing play...

Come on Man!!!! SLJ I know you watch every game just like me... Don't exaggerate the situation. I think I still have a game on tivo I can send you... Yes there are SOME break downs in protection, but it's far from every passing play. You guys make it seem like literally every drop back is met with pressure.

It does happen more than it needs too, and when it does happen it makes it seem like it's every play but it's not. I swear the best thing to do is record a game and watch it back and actually look at the plays objectively.

If the Panthers end up with the #1 pick and they don't pick Luck, we would really be the laughing stock of the year. Tough position for us to be in, that's for sure. But since the season is over, I will enjoy having that pick.

it's not giving up on clausen, imo. it's taking advantage of a greater prospect that is getting placed in your lap.

there was the same seitancy over dafting calusen in the first place since we just found our starting QB in matt moore. see how that turned out? calsuen had more potential than moore, but we already knew what we had in moore (we thought).

now clausen comes in and he looks like he has some potential...but it's hard to see behind a terrible offense and playcalling. it's all specualtion with clausen as much as it is luck.

you take the best available prospect when you don't have one entrenched and it's a position that needs to be improved. QB is an area that we have needed improvement on for many years and have ignored because we thought we didn't want to risk a bust. where did that get us? no rings, thats for sure.

we don't have a QB entrenched. clausen hasn't stepped up and taken over. the offense is likely to be changed this next year with the new regime coming in...why would you not want to give them the best QB prospect possible to build around when it wouldn't cost you much as far as leadership, money, time, and overall investment?

if clausen is good or has some real potential, then he will likely have some trade value attached to him going into the draft.

Honestly I don't understand why people have given up on Clausen so early. I understand you almost have to take luck if he's there.
