As others have said, he hasn't even declared... Plus, what a way for a new coach to enter... a QB controversy on his hands as soon as he arrives...

Our offensive woes are mainly attributable to horrible playcalling and poor pass protection (and opening of running lanes if you want to go there)...

I'm not a Clausen nut hugger by any means, but I still say he is a better overall pro QB candidate than Bradford is... Put him on a team that knows how to run an offense and give the QB time to actually, you know, throw the ball... Bradford would be just as bad in our current system...

Wow... I don't see it. I watched the two play a lot this year... especially since I lived in St. Louis the first half of the season... and I can't see Clausen being as good as Bradford. Bradford is smart, accurate, and making good quick reads. That's something you can do even with a not good team like the rams. Jimmy, I'm just not seeing it... AND I WANT TO SEE IT!! The thing is all around the NFL I'm still seeing QB's make plays behind not great O-lines. Hell Rodgers did it last year and I know their O-line was worst than what ours is now. Good Qb's can still make plays. I want to see Jimmy start making plays.

I hope Jimmy could be a probowl QB... that would allow us to take someone like AJ Green, resign Williams and potentially have some of the best weapons in the nfl.

But I know QB is the key to long term success and I think It's luck.

The only way a new coach comes in to a team and doesn't have a QB controversy right away if it there is already an established QB in place (like with Philip River in SD or Big Ben in Pitt). History says that a new coaching staff will almost always go get their QB and not try to stick with the old regimes QB.

Please explain what you have seen out of Clausen this season to suggest that he will be a better pro prospect than Bradford. I know I sure haven't seen anything out of his play to suggest it...

I don't know that Luck, or Harbaugh for that matter, would be smart moves for us...

If so, you might as well get rid of Hurney for drafting Clausen... I don't want to go into a season with Clausen and Luck (or another rookie QB for that matter) fighting it out... The loser of that battle will pretty much be seen as a busted pick, and will carry little to zero trade value...

Should get rid of Hurney for drafting Edwards if anything, what a waste.

We can not afford to pass up the opportunity to get Luck if the situation presents itself. We need a fanchise QB to compete, look at the current teams on top of the NFL and check out the QBs. We have squandered many draft picks in the past so whats one more if he is a bust? The upside is huge for our teams success. I dont want to languish in this QB carousel of sh!t because we already have 3 years of that under our belt.

This is a no brainer of a pick for skills and intelligence, just have to find a coach that can manage it, and thats comin too.

I love how Colin Cowherd says Clausen looks small out there.

Funny how Colt McCoy is 3 inches shorter but doens't look "small".

Drew Brees doens't look small.

People see what they want to see.

The Panthers aren't winning so it must be because Clausen is small, so the team should draft Luck because he is tall.

I think I know what Cowherd is trying to say by calling Clausen small and it doesn't have anything to do with height but rather confidence. Clausen looks lost and scared when he plays which is kind of like a "small" kid in an uncomfortable situtation. Brees and McCoy, who are the same height if not shorter than Clausen, have confidence and moxy when playing which results in them playing bigger than they are through their body language. Hope this makes sense.

there will be no QB controversy if we draft luck. we do that KNOWING that he is going to be the guy, and probably be the guy right away. clausen won't be on the roster if we draft luck. he will be traded away. only thing we can hope is that he looks ok these last few weeks enough to get a decent trade. i'd settle for a 4th round pick. 3rd would be great, but i don't expect that at all.

i wouldn't consider it a failed pick at all either. you draft him because he is the best QB available, not because he is the best possible QB. had we known tha we would have a shot at the best QB to come out of college in many eyars, i guarantee you that we wouldn't have drafted clausen this year. it's one of those things that fall into your lap and you take advantage of. it's luck. it's unexpected fortune. it's opportunity knocking at your door and you better answer because chances like this don't come around, well, hardly ever.

a new HC would probably want his own guy. who is he going to want? who is going to be available in FA? nobody you'd want to build a team around, thats for sure. what about via trade? like someone is going to trade a legit starting QB that we could build a solid team around without bending us over a barrell and having a party...

the best chance for a QB to build a team around is right within reach. his potential is sooo much greater than clausen. i believe clausen can still be a decent QB...but he'll never be elite. luck has that special quality that all but the most closed-minded of individuals can see will make him one of the greats. is it a guarantee? nope, but you have to take risks, and this is one of the safest ones you could take with the highest payoff.

btw...i totally agree that we need to have a vet QB brought in. we need someone that can start if needed and not suck, who is smart and has a lot of playing time and experience under his belt. having harbaugh will help out a lot. finding a good QB coach not from a failed QB program will help as well.

When a QB is drafted #1 overall, there's never a controversy. It's just a matter of time, and everyone knows it.

And I share your high opinion of Clausen, but would take Luck in a heartbeat. Imagine having the luxury of keeping a rookie like Luck on the bench for a season and let him soak in the pro game. At the same time, in the right system Clausen will look like a future star. If you have both of them on your roster, then you have someone's first round pick just waiting to be traded for. Think about what the Chargers could have gotten for Brees had he not been injured.

Bottom line, if Luck is a franchise QB then you take him, period. They're far too valuable to pass on, no matter who's on your roster.
