If we're going to be bad, let's be epically bad

This may very well go down in the books as one of the worst Panthers teams of all time. And it would be a crying shame... if it didn't.

We have, before us, a chance that only comes around once in a team's history: to be the most pathetic, ridiculous, terrible team ever fielded by an organization. And we can't waste it.

Sure, 2001's edition did lose 15 in a row. But they did hang on to the same QB for almost the entire year. We saw a noted coach completely lose his grasp on the game and tarnish his image as a Super Bowl contender (sounds similar, doesn't it).

But look at where we are now. A team averaging 24 years of age, an injury list a mile long... playing our, what, fifth quarterback of the season this week? Players voluntarily going on IR for hangnails?

We're soooo close to making a big splash on the NFL Network's next 10 Worst Teams of All Time shows. We could be the only team with 2 spots on that list.

So, as we screw up more and more, cheer your team on! Cheer for them to reach a new height in patheticism. And remember, it's not just the first pick in the draft we're fighting for, but for a certain immortality, too!

And remember, the stinker of season they are handing us will hang around their necks thoughout their careers. Now that's a gift that keeps on giving.

Just in time for the holidays!

The good thing is, only stats and the record says it's a bad team. Most of us know there is talent on the team, good talent. Talent a lot of teams wish they had. We have money to spend next year, and only a few spots to fill. With the right coach and an easy schedule, we could surprise the NFL next year...if there is a next year.

If the season ended today, here's our schedule:

Home:

Atlanta

Tampa

New Orleans

Green Bay

Minnesota

Jacksonville

Tennessee

Dallas or Arizona

Away:

Atlanta

Tampa

New Orleans

Detroit

Indianapolis

Houston

Dallas or Arizona

Granted none of this means much at all since there will be changes across the board to many of these teams, but still I'm not sure that would qualify as an "easy schedule". All of our division games are tough, Green Bay and Indy will be good as long as Rodgers and Manning are healthy, Dallas looks better already without Wade Phillips, and has traditionally owned us in the regular season. We've never beaten Houston.

easy schedule as in 4th place schedule. I know there are no easy schedules in the NFL. Why does everybody seem to think they need to try and one up somebody?

The only difference between a first and fourth place schedule is two games, and like I said, one of them will be Dallas who is not your typical last place team that will be down for a while. Your comment made me think about who we would be playing next year, and I thought it would be relevant to post who we were actually playing since a lot of folks around here don't understand that the schedule is largely set for next year.
