The stream nearby wouldn't happen to have a nice, lazy oxbow in it for panning purposes would it? And if you're talking about the Spruce Pine area, you could see emeralds as well.

We would actually own the land. The owner is asking $29,999 for 1.6 acres. (Actually, a pretty good deal, other than being in Western NC. Not that there is anything wrong with Western, NC.) Only building on it is this shed.

Between the buckets of gems and selling off the timber, I imagine very little operating capital would be needed. (If you wanted to turn it into a tourist attraction. There are at least 2 other Ruby mines in the area..

1.6 acres of secluded land surrounded by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains near XXXXXXX, North Carolina. Comes with a nice shed filled with approximately 150 to 200 five gallon buckets of native ruby mine gravel concentrate from the defunct ruby mine. The mine was run by my family and closed back in 2000. Concentrate buckets sold for approximately $60 a piece at the time of the mine closing. Small creek runs along property. Land also sits on what was once another ruby mine.

The price is just kinda fishy, considering the mine was basically a failed business already... and 1.6 acres isn't a lot, really...

Ruby mines have been operating in the area since the mid/late 1800's!

However, XXXXXXX is a small mountain town surrounded by beautiful streams, waterfalls, mountains, hills and valleys. The people are friendly and organize lots of activities, including festivals and arts & crafts shows. There are plenty of trails for hiking and the views are breathtaking. There is also plenty of fishing, hunting, rafting and kayaking available.

From what I understand, it was closed due to the owners getting up in years. The son, who lives out of state (Arizona). Is a real estate agent and has his hand in selling it. (I guess he doesn't wan't to move back and operate it.)

unless you want the land for future investment purposes, buying a mine is a waste of time. buy a gold pan and head to jamestown and southern guilford county, find a secluded oxbow with black sand, and go to town.

I'll Drive! I'm always on the hunt got GOLD! I have Gold detectors, sluices, pans, high bankers, everything but a dredge and I have a line on one of them! All I need is a partner who wants to get wet! I have a 5 gallon bucket now that I am working on classifing down. 4 more that are classified down to Fine (2X), Medium (1) and rocks (1). Just waiting on my move in December to start gettin' the GOLD!

i used to have a pretty nice dredge, sold it about ten years ago when i moved away from colorado and needed the cash. threw away a six-foot handmade sluice during a move in NC because i didnt have the room... and i think i gave away a handful of gold pans.

all i've got now is the know-how and the desire. my brother-in-law is on Tarawa in the south pacific until mid-december, but when he gets back we're planning on researching an expedition... keep an eye on your inbox around that time!

I could do it by myself. Trouble is, I'm paying cash for my condo. I guess I could turn around and get a Home equity loan and buy it.

provided I can transfer up into it from my chair. (I love operating heavy equipment!) A small track hoe or skidsteer (Bobcat) would probably be all you would need to dig out paydirt.

If you want to set it up as a tourist mine, then you would need to build some more buildings. At least a gift shop, rest rooms, picnic area, run water so people can pan, parking, etc.

But there is already $9,000+ equity in the paydirt. The timber, depending on what it is and how big, might be worth another $5,000+. (Of course, it might be cool to use the timber to build the gift shop.)
