Clausen vs Luck vs Young... who would you want??

You are missing the point sir. The point is that Freeman showed some potential. He had 10 TDs. Jimmy has 1. Josh was 59%. Jimmy is below 50%. You see the difference?

People were expecting the rookie to struggle but also expected to see some flashes. The struggling has been there but not the flashes, that's why people are giving up. All the other rookies are showing flashes, just not ours. :(

Kinda hard to show any flash when hes running for his damn life and barely has run support.

It's amazing how dismissive some people are around here and what they consider "flashes" and not. 40 yard pass from Matt Moore? Flash of brilliance. 40 yard pass from a rookie? Nice throw but something Moore could have made too!

Clausen will have plenty of time to improve this year, but regardless, we should get Luck if he's there imo.

If he is there??? We got the number one draft pick, where is he gonna go? :ciappa:

He's had two of the better rushing performances of our season (NO and TB2) and running for his life is partly his fault as well. He's had some chances to make plays but often chooses to flee the pocket and check down to be safe. It helps prevent him from throwing picks but also prevents TDs and first downs as well.

No one brought up Moore but you. Would you like me to say he's had 2 flashes. Are you really going to compare that to what Freeman or Ryan or McCoy or Bradford showed in their rookie seasons?

Just because he is on our team doesn't mean he gets a pass. Just because some of you already like him, doesn't mean Luck isn't better.

Bottom Line: Clausen hasn't shown enough for us NOT to draft Luck at #1

That's not every play. There have been a lot of times when our qb's have had time in the pocket but still not move the ball. I think people see and remember all of the o-lines bad plays and tries to make that a representation of every play which is not the case. Like most of us here I've seen every panther snap this year (Well minus the 4th quarter last week when it was about the chase) and our QB's have had opportunities to show some flash, but they are yet too.... But there is still time left in the season to see some improvement.

That video kind of proves my point.... 80% of those highlights don't happen in the NFL. A lot of those were with he feet or hitting wide open WR's minus about 3 passes I saw.

My point is I did not see him in the highlights going thru progressions and making passes down field, and in the Auburn games I've watched this year teams are so worried about him running they have not thrown complex coverages at him.

I'm not saying he can't be a QB Like Big ben, he just hasn't had to be yet so I don't know if he can make those reads and progressions down the field against NFL defenses.

So based on what you guys are saying I think Cam's upside could be just as high as Luck's, but I think he is a riskier pick. Just my opinion....I can understand the argument for those who disagree.

Pretty stupid argument. Go to any highlight reel of Luck and Locker and the same thing applies. Al of them are going to look better playing against colege level talent versus NFl talent. But the talent they have to work with will be worlds better as well.

Newton has the tools to be a very good NFL quarterback and athletically is more gifted than Luck or Locker. But athleticism alone doesn't guarantee you will be successful either.

But using college highlights to either prove or disprove a college quarterback's potential in the NFL is pretty lame.

Not stupid at all.... When I said 80% I was talking about him performing plays that he will not run in the NFL. A lot of those plays were designed draws or option plays that will not be used in the NFL... that is what I was referring to. I watch a lot of college football, and I've seen auburn play 4, maybe 5 games this year. My opinion is based on him not having to make NFL type reads or go thru progressions.

As I said before he MAY beable too, but I have seen anything to prove that he will be a smart NFL QB that can make reads, go thru progressions, and sit in the pocket and make plays.

ALSO I NEVER SAID HE HAS NO POTENTIAL, you may want to reread my post.... I said he is simply a riskier pick because he has not had to do those things.

That goes for most option style system quarterbacks when entering the NFL. They maybe good, but it's harder to truly evaluate in terms of making NFL passes and reads.

Now as a contrast the Luck video that was posted in this thread has passes that he will have to make in the nfl... going thru progession, making reads, and delivering accurate passes from the pocket...

A lot of quarterbacks have tools, Cutler has tools, Jawalrus Russel had tools, Matt Leinart didn't have tools, But it's showing you can use those tools to consistently make NFL passes.

Vick has always had tools, but he has now learned how to use those tools and make the nfl throws and reads.
