Best quarterback era?

What, in your opinion, was the golden era of quarterback play?

Was it the 60s, with Johnny Unitas and Bart Starr? Guys who called their own plays, played hurt, and basically had zero prima donna in them?

Was it the 70s, with Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw and Fran Tarkenton? Guys who started turning play calling duties over to the sideline, but made plays and still led their teams in the clutch?

Was it the 80s, with Joe Montana and Dan Marino? Guys who took what the 70s guys did and perfected it?

Was it the 90s, with John Elway, Brett Favre, Troy Aikman and Steve Young?

Guys who added the running dimension to what the guys in the 80s did?

Or was it the 00s, with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning? Guys who remained in the pocket and picked almost every defense they faced totally apart?

Discuss.

IMO, the after they added the no hit beyond 5 yards rule for receivers, things changed for the Passing game. The QB's before then had it harder, which is why the run game was so dominant.

That being said, they were all good.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
