If we don't need a QB, we aren't sold on a WR at #8, why not take a play maker at TE? Dude looks like a young Greg Olsen and let's face it, we have been dog poo since we last had a legit TE1 on this team.  Coincidence? Maybe, or maybe a QBs best friend has been missing on this roster for nearly a decade.  All the elite teams have a legit TE1, we had Ian Thomas until now.  While I like Sanders, he's not Kelsey or Kittle.

Time to change our luck:

I just worry about him being able to separate and get space/open.

I personally do not think he will be able to get targets due to LBs, safety, and DBs being inside his jersey.

That's the thing, he's this good and not even a finished product.  A lot of great TEs don't have elite twitch and suddenness to them.  He's a football player through and through and I feel that once he gets to eat/sleep football 24/7 in the NFL, he's going to hone his route tree while refining his breaks/cuts.

My only knock on him is he's a bit stiff, which is hampers crisp route running.  Warren strikes me as a gym rat football junkie and I can see that cleaned up in short order...in the course of a season or less.  Unless your name is Brock Bowers, TEs usually don't set the League on fire their rookie season.  I could see him contributing heavily in year 1, none-the-less.

I agree, there are other ways to get open. AT when healthy shows proof as well. Jason Witten got open til he was 37, retired and came back.

Plus just like Tmac, he was the whole show on offense. Teams just had to focus on warren, still couldn't stop him.

Unlike all the players I want, warren is great human. I also agree he would put in all the time. I still have huge reverses about even getting a little open to the point where the QB would toss him a pass. I'll say this, let a offense mind get a hold of him (Reid, mcvay, shanny, O'Connell, etc) I believe that could decide his career. Panthers don't have one of those coaches.

That's where a strong-willed football player comes into play.  Our best players have always been film/ball junkies.  This guy grew up on football (dad was a high school HC ) and has played several potions since high school.  Sounds familiar to another TE we had?  Olsen has admitted many times that he had to put in the extra effort because he wasn't an elite athlete.  It's not like we've ever had a TE whisperer on our staffs in the past and have turned out some solid dudes.

If we can get another WR to contribute, there will be too many guys for the defense to focus in on Warren.

Rumors are Sean Peyton is eyeballing him in Denver to fill a Taysom Hill type role.
