Tyler Warren

If we don't need a QB, we aren't sold on a WR at #8, why not take a play maker at TE? Dude looks like a young Greg Olsen and let's face it, we have been dog poo since we last had a legit TE1 on this team.  Coincidence? Maybe, or maybe a QBs best friend has been missing on this roster for nearly a decade.  All the elite teams have a legit TE1, we had Ian Thomas until now.  While I like Sanders, he's not Kelsey or Kittle.

Time to change our luck:

From a Saints' fan prospective.  If we pass on Warren and he is there at #8 and the Saints draft him, dude will haunt us for YEARS. (First 9-1/2 minutes.)

I just worry about him being able to separate and get space/open.

I personally do not think he will be able to get targets due to LBs, safety, and DBs being inside his jersey.

That's the thing, he's this good and not even a finished product.  A lot of great TEs don't have elite twitch and suddenness to them.  He's a football player through and through and I feel that once he gets to eat/sleep football 24/7 in the NFL, he's going to hone his route tree while refining his breaks/cuts.

My only knock on him is he's a bit stiff, which is hampers crisp route running.  Warren strikes me as a gym rat football junkie and I can see that cleaned up in short order...in the course of a season or less.  Unless your name is Brock Bowers, TEs usually don't set the League on fire their rookie season.  I could see him contributing heavily in year 1, none-the-less.

I agree, there are other ways to get open. AT when healthy shows proof as well. Jason Witten got open til he was 37, retired and came back.

Plus just like Tmac, he was the whole show on offense. Teams just had to focus on warren, still couldn't stop him.

Unlike all the players I want, warren is great human. I also agree he would put in all the time. I still have huge reverses about even getting a little open to the point where the QB would toss him a pass. I'll say this, let a offense mind get a hold of him (Reid, mcvay, shanny, O'Connell, etc) I believe that could decide his career. Panthers don't have one of those coaches.

That's where a strong-willed football player comes into play.  Our best players have always been film/ball junkies.  This guy grew up on football (dad was a high school HC ) and has played several potions since high school.  Sounds familiar to another TE we had?  Olsen has admitted many times that he had to put in the extra effort because he wasn't an elite athlete.  It's not like we've ever had a TE whisperer on our staffs in the past and have turned out some solid dudes.

If we can get another WR to contribute, there will be too many guys for the defense to focus in on Warren.

Rumors are Sean Peyton is eyeballing him in Denver to fill a Taysom Hill type role.

NFL dot com has Warren ranked as the 4th best prospect on behind Jeanty, Carter and Hunter.  Sorry guys, it's easier to find an above average EDGE guy than an elite TE.   These EDGE guys are all over the place depending on which site you look at who is the better prospect.  In other words, if the experts don't have a consensus, or even close to it, who is EDGE2 behind Carter, then it's a crap shoot.  Warren is the consensus TE1, although Loveland is ranked high too.  I've seen Warren comped to Gronk and Loveland to Kelce.  Gronk was a complete TE and Kelce is definitely more geared to the passing attack.

I know we are 99.99% gong defense, I just think we may be forcing it depending on how the board falls.  If Warren is there, the top defender should not be placed above him assuming Graham is gone simply because the emphasis of the draft is to retool the defense.

Also, re-upping a TE on a second deal versus an EDGE guy as first round draftees down the road will be much more cap friendly.

If you watch, he creates the space with physicality. This isn't an issue for him. He has great hands when covered tightly and then just crashes the guy out of the way. We've got to get this guy.

That's a no from me. Penn St coaches built the entire offense around him and he still disappeared at times. I just don't see the value for a top ten pick.

So they built their offense around a TE?  Think about that, a TIGHT END.  Also, if he's the key for defenses, don't you think they were able to successfully neutralize him at times?  He didn't put up these elite numbers in the MAC, Mountain West or even the ACC, rather he did this in the BIg Ten, which arguably is the best conference now...even over the SEC.

This is just one of those deals where I don't feel college success will transform into NFL success. I think it will be struggle city for him just getting a QB to throw to him.  Have you seen his 5th year XL-like success=

That's scary when you are talking top ten.

This draft is the weirdest one that I can recall.

I honestly don't believe he was even ranked (draft-wise) in 2023.

Sorry, but his junior year is what most TEs dream of in college.  His Freshman year Pat Freiermuth was there, he wasn't seeing the field.  So his only "non-productive" year was his Soph. year when he was still behind Brenton Strange who was drafted in round 2 in the 2023 draft.

Warren is legit.  I'll take a Swiss Army knife offensive player over a 8-10 sack per season EDGE guy every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Canales hasn't shown to use a TE in his system enough to justify picking 1 at 8 or even in the first round.  Sanders is fine for this system

I know; system-smystem; mediocrity is our hallmark, as we are the Carolina Panthers.  Bye, bye Bryce!  I shouldn't be too upset.
