Why it's a dumb move - Part Deux

Mr. Scot

Damn! I didn't realize all this poo was going on. I have been so busy working this week, that I almost missed all the fun. Gantt, Scot and others are finally falling to pieces. I don't know whether this is more akin to Saturday Night Live or General Hospital. You guys 35 and older remember the show, Dallas, and one of the greatest story lines in television history: "Who shot JR?" Well I guess we could call this one: Who fuged JR?

Not sure exactly what you mean, but I don't "fall to pieces" over a football team.

My personal belief? Having thought it over, I'm willing to accept that it could be a flip-off to ownership, but I don't think it actually is.

I think Fox truly believes this is the right thing to do based on his love of veteran players, even if that definition only fits St. Pierre in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Which, in my opinion, is worse than if it were a flip-off. Given the choice between rebelliousness and poor judgment, I'd prefer rebelliousness.

(not that either is exactly a good thing) :(

The thing you have to remember though is that whether it actually is a flip-off or not, it can sure as heck be seen as one.

Either way, it's a dumb thing to do.

What makes Gantt or anyone else think a 6th round rookie from a spread offense and a D2 guy that was drafted as a WR are so far superior to a guy that's been around the league for 7 years that this is mutiny?

St. Pierre hasn't played much (or at all), but he's practiced and had the benefit of NFL coaching for 7 years... that counts for much more than most people think.

The bottom line is that I just can't get that excited about this because I think we lose this game hands-down with St. Pierre, Pike or AE... so why does it matter who we have out there?

Three different NFL braintrusts - the Steelers, Ravens and Cardinals - ultimately decided he wasn't even worthy of keeping a spot on the regular roster.

Twenty-eight others didn't even think he was worth signing to their practice squad.

The Panthers? They named him a starter :(

Tony Pike is still an unknown. He could indeed turn out to be bad in time, but for the moment, he's young and just getting started and still has plenty of potential.

Right now, I'll take that over a guy that nobody thinks is starter material - or rather, nobody except John Fox.

But this is for one game. With the team we have right now and the opponenet were playing, wether we put Pike or Pierre really doesnt effect the very likley outcome of the game.

Regardless of potneital Pike may have, this one game will not change anything for him , he will not suddnly be good or be an impact because he gets one game of snaps.

What is the negative impact of starting Pierre over Pike, that wouldnt be there if Pike was starting?

I think fans want to see Pike get the reps because of where he was drafted and to see if it looks like he has a future with the team. If experience is what matters, one has to think the Panthers could've brought someone in with more experience than St. Pierre. You're right in that it shouldn't make any difference in this one game, though.

What's the positive impact?

Even St. Pierre himself didn't sound all that hot on the idea.

Personally I blieve Pierrie has an slightest of edges in assiting us in the game. However that is obviously disputable

Regardless, if there is no positve nor negative impact, then it really doesnt make since to me for people make a big deal about it and/or call it bad move.

Its a move based on personal prefrence that has really no better or worse answer between the two choices.
