This. He would not have been IR'd unless they wanted him back.

What does that have anything to do with them keeping him? Maybe he said "the hell with playing for this sorry ass team" and said he wasn't playing another snap this year so they put him on IR so it wouldn't look so bad to the media......

Thomas Davis said the FO told him they would resign him. It sounds like DWill hasn't heard anything. At least Davis has talked with them at least about coming back.

Davis was in a totally different situation than DeAngelo when the FO had that conversation with him.

I guess but it seems weird that they "assured" him he would be a Panther and haven't assured D-Will anything.

Maybe D-Will doesn't want to be assured of being a Panther but instead wants to be assured a ring and thinks he has to go elsewhere to get it before his days are done. GB or Indy would be some stops.

I don't see Deangelo saying that (if only because it's a contract year), and I don't see Carolina IR-ing him if they weren't interested in his 100% health next year. Regardless of all the conspiracies flying around about aiming to lose, hard to believe they'd shut down one of their only offensive weapons, especially with Stewart struggling as he has, if they were just going to let him walk.

Mark my words, in my FIRST official post, D. Williams will remain a Panther next season! There's no way, with the shape this team is in, that they will let our best RB go. Yea, sure he doesn't have the YPC this year, but I chalk that up to the O line that we have this year due to injuries and dumb decisions. Athankya!

Besides having Fox and his staff coaching the team this season, the Panthers not signing their core players is the second biggest part of the whole CBA thing that pisses me off. Players like Williams and Kailil would have been signed and locked up by now like they have done for other playes in past recent years during the season. (ie Gamble)

I still think D'Will is going to be a panther next season and be resigned. If anything they will franchise tag him.

His agent Jimmy Sexton told Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer that there have been no meaningful contract negotiations between the two sides. That’s no surprise for anyone that has watched how the Panthers have conducted business of late

I certainly hope not. D Will is the best back on the roster, by far. And even tough he is hurt right now, he's the most dependable and rarely fumbles. Why get rid of him, it makes no sense.

If we somehow screw up re-signing D'lo, it would be beyond to stupidest move in our franchise's history. There's no way, no matter how stupid we think the FO is that we wouldn't re-sign him.

This organization will never rest on its laurels of stupid moves...it's wise to always expect something to out-do previous stupidity.

Serious question amidst all this - I understand the uncertainty around the future CBA and what that holds, but a player could be resigned today if both sides agreed, correct?

If this is true, does anyone feel there is potential risk by letting a superstar drift into the tantalizing world of free agency instead of locking up while still under contract? Regardless of the intentions today, nothing is set in stone on either side.
